Why do people like getting chewy with door staff

I work pub doors around the North East and sometimes I wonder why people like getting chewy with door staff. A lot of times, people imagine we love kicking people out (I'll be honest, sometimes we do) but most times, we just want to have a quiet evening and chat away at the door and bid the night farewell.
But there's always a group of people that'll never stick to the pub rules, no matter how many times you tell them, and it can get exhausting. |

To be honest OP some folk could start a fight in an empty room, and some view it as the measure of a 'good night' if they've got into a brawl with someone. But drink definitely is a contributing factor in dulling the senses, and increasing hostility.

Don't why they do it other than alcohol and arrogance.
I worked bars/clubs when I was younger so always try to be nice to door/bar/club staff.
I'm aware of how annoying d*unk people are (even when I am a d*unk people)

"Because a lot are cunts.
By that I meant doorman.
Quite happy to chew if someone's a twat."
It doesn't work. You will get kicked out.
Not saying you should allow yourself to be belittled by anyone. But the doormans duty is primarily to keep everyone safe, customer service is secondary to that. When they meet two people arguing and ruining the experience for others, we will generally kick all parties out, irrespective of who was at fault, in fact sometimes, we may kick out the weaker person first because, that essentially keeps the person safe |

I have the utmost respect for doormen and women.
The are all fine upstanding people in my experience and they never dabble in illegal activities or take their position of power further than their remit.
Thank goodness for doorstaff keeping everyone safe. |

The days of duelling for our honour are long over. If someone's a twat, let them be a twat! |

You seem reasonable, but that puts you in a certain percentile.
The reality is it depends where you live and go out. I know some cool doormen and I know others are twats. It's not an art or science - it's down to someone attempting to abuse (extremely limited) power.
I've got no dog in this fight anyway, but if I've been done wrong I'm quite happy to complain. |

Probably because many get a power trip on the door (I say that having worked them). Many are not educated in what is actually required and there’s very little continuity in policy. I found (from being on the other side of the steward fence) that many are just badges to fill spaces and make up numbers to cover a shift. R |

I've worked the doors for over 30 years and unfortunately it will never change there's always that idiot who spoils everyone's night so they get to leave normally by the front door!!! |

"The presence of visible door staff is always a good sign of places to avoid, as that's where the trouble is. So I guess these things are linked"
Not Necessarily the presence of door staff is there for protection of customers and property and means the establishment takes itself seriously and will not tolerate d*unken behaviour and aggression towards staff customers |

In the small town I live in, only 2 pubs have door staff. One is to limit numbers late at night, as it is very popular. The other is the pub where all pub fights in the town take place. |
