A podcast clip popped up on my YouTube feed & this young lass was debating how her job as a ‘cam girl’ was 1 of the hardest job in the world . Myself I wouldn’t have put that even in the top 100 hardest jobs lol I thought being a brick layer in August was a harder graft.

But what do you think is the hardest job in the world?

Any job where you may face people who can die in large numbers, potentially even with your life at risk. Aid workers, etc I'd find that so hard, where children may be losing their lives, from poverty, sanitation issues, war.

It's a race to the bottom, trying to get a league table of bad jobs. Individuals each have their own ability to tolerate different things and levels of problems. What's tedious and awful one day may be distressing beyond limits the next, for someone.

I really don't know. I can think of loads. Doctors, paramedics... police, they have to see some awful things... same with social workers. I can imagine it takes a toll on your mental health. But then, what about the people who work to help trafficked children etc? I couldn't do it. And those who clean up after suicides, murders... or those who work with children who are sick and dying. But then there are also jobs that risk your life, or jobs that are isolating and lonely. Or jobs where you're being worked to the bone for nothing in return. I couldn't pick just one.

I don’t honestly know what is the hardest job, but my opinion is, nurses don’t get the respect and pay they should. Being in hospital myself one time seeing those nurses on their feet all day 12 hour and maybe more shifts with little time to have dinner for themselves I find that a very very hard job

Indian sewage divers. Their workwear: A speedo and some googles. Their pay: A bottle of strong liquor and a few rupees a day.

Must be tough to dive down in sewage waters everyday, so tough that you even get paid in alcohol so you can forget....

Astronaut - not only do you have to be very smart and educated, you also need to be in good physical shape and endure very straining situations in desolate, helpless places.

Think of Astronaut Gordon Cooper whose re-entry capsule was damaged and he had to do very complicated calculations to manually land his craft without going up in flames or crashing to his death without any chance of checking his calculations over and over again, and all that while literally falling out of the sky.

Alaskan fishermen, who endure rough seas and terrible weather in remote places. There are many accidents, many die.

Special Forces in the army is obviously very, very difficult. Not only is it dangerous, you also have to go beyond what is physically and mentally possible at times, especially when things go wrong. I think one of the toughest troups in the world are the capi blanc, the french foreign legionnaires, who made their reputation by being expendable troops being sent to hopeless suicide missions, because the french doesn't care of their wellbeing. And they are so tough, they survived many impossible situations.

How about firefighters? They are fighting the elements to rescue trapped and often uncons.cious people, children and pets in places with 0 visibility and every door you open could be the last.

Due to the flames, the buildings are often unstable, too.

They also help when things blow up or in all sorts of emergencies.

Miners are also in a tough place. It's underground, dirty work with weeks and months at a time away from civilisation. There are possible cave ins or gas, not to mention that the work is very physical, too. Even if they have tools, a lot has to be done by hand still.

Oil rigs are very similar to that job, too.

Right. Just because you don't see them running down the street in firefights all day long, doesn't mean they don't do their job. In fact, if you don't see them they are doing a good job!

Police in the UK is not perfect, but I'd rather have the UK police than the cops they have in thailand, mexico or guatemala...

Be a little more thankful for how they keep you save.

They were in afghanistan until 2014.

And yeah, you can call it a peacekeeping mission but they are securing the areas and fight insurgence. They do roll out and actively look for targets, too. Or well, used to. It's part of keeping the peace.

That is a war.

I mean the vietnam war was the same type of war: Train the local troops and go on missions against the rebels for peace keeping. Brits, aussies and americans "supported" the south in Vietnam the same way they were supporting the troops in Afghanistan.

And I think we all agree, that vietnam was a war.

Peacekeeping is just a new word for war. Really is. It's just not a territorial war for the supporting nations, as they are not interested in conquest.

I once saw a documentary asking this question and their Number 1 was Alaskan crab fishermen.

Mainly as they have to have incredible speed and agility, immense physical strength and able to work burning vast amounts of calories off. To top this they often get thrown overboard and rely on their colleagues, who have less than 10 seconds to save them, to pull them out of the freezing cold ocean!

Back in my teens I once worked at a dairy factory, 18 hours in all I lasted before thinking “ fuck this “. I was basic shovelling cheese into a machine to make spreadable cheese. All day 8 hours, half hour break.

Oh same agency I had a job for 2 hours. My job was, if you look at the rubber around a car door it has little tiny holes in. My job was to pull the cut out rubber from these holes with tweezers.

Also mentally wise it definitely depends on the people you work with.

The mr "

I worked agency for some time, I did countless jobs like that. That's just normal. Every job is challenging in its own way really. But I wouldn't class any of this as the hardest. It's just mindnumbing and uncomfortable. But if you do a job long enough, you just turn off your brain and work on full auto while you think about stuff. It's therapeutic in a way, once you hit your zone.

I worked all sorts of warehouses and construction site jobs, through all sorts of factory work.

One job was me loading and unloading lorries all day long, without a break because "we don't know if you're working 8 or 11 hours today, and you are only legally entitled to a break from 9 hours onwards".

And if there were no lorries and you had to sit down and wait, they deducted it from your time.

Parcels were all shapes and sizes and weights, and could weigh up to 50 kilos. Loading lorries you were supposed to be 2 people per lorry, often worked 2 lorries alone though... Learn how to throw the parcels right, because if you load the lorries you gotta play tetris and you don't have time to walk in with every parcel from the band, you have to be quicker than they come, or the whole system comes to a stop and they yell at you.

I remember having to load lorries full of car tyres with rims, which weigh like 30 kilos each, up to 2,50 high, and they come down a slope and crash into the break bar with enormous speeds sometimes. You have like 10 seconds per tyre, too. And I don't take smoke breaks, so I never got a break, smokers would just dart of every half hours for 20 minute breaks at a time... Because tyres are the only thing were you have 2 loaders per one lorry, otherwise it's impossible. Yet, as I mention, they still fuck off.

And if you're so feisty to take a break to have lunch, they come and annoy you every 5 minutes, tapping their watch, saying they need you. There were no official break times...

A day could be 6 hours, a day could be 12 hours. You have no idea of what's coming and WHEN. Some drivers are late and then you're fucked.

At some point, when there was little work, you had everyone unload one lorry at the same time, and you spread the parcels over the bands that are there, so you kinda throw the parcels so that they don't break but also don't slide off (there were no siderails on those bands) and with the barcode up so the scanner can scan it properly.

That was my very first job and I thoughtt it was normal, because i had no other references lmao. I worked there maybe a year or so and then went on in my professional life to do other things. Years later I picked up agency work, and I realised: No other job is even remotely as hard as that one. Heavy parcels, very fast and physically demanding work, you also need a lot of skill to handle the parcels right (or your wall of parcels collapses on you or you break parcels or something else) and virtually no breaks, and everyone is just bossing you around like you're a sla ve.

Probably some kind of field work long hot days doing heavy manual work.

sugarcane, watermelon and tomatoes harvests are harsh , most people don't last a day, but kinda fun if your competitive & into the fitness and workout in 40 degree, but rice looks far worse, leeches all over your feet and legs.

"Working on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Why is that particularly hard?"

Rotor and engine wash.

Landing on an moving carrier in rolling seas, or at night,

Fast moving and aircraft.

A snippet from an article,

The deck is a busy place, full of dangerous things — like bombs, bullets and fuel. In 1967 a Zuni rocket on a F-4 Phantom misfired and started a massive fire onboard USS Forestall. The fire on the deck burned for hours and cost the lives of 134 crewmembers. Metals like magnesium and phosphorus used in munitions can combust causing Delta-class fires. The metals burn at thousands of degrees and are very difficult to put out.

More dangerous but hard work also.

Competitiveness can fuck off, that's not down to the job what makes it difficult, it is simply the competition you have within that field. Anything sports related especially - it's niche and very age dependent. The job itself is not hard.

Personally difficult? That depends on the person. We all handle and are capable of different things. Emotional impact comes in to play here, those that see horrible things daily - the job itself is not difficult but what it involves can make it difficult to have yourself do the job.

Actually difficult and hard to do? Anything that requires precision and critical on the spot proactive AND reactive decision making and actions. Risks, life and death, huge consequences.

I have to say that although some great ideas, but do you think being a teacher is harder than having to eek out an existence in the sub saharan diamond mines, only being paid what you find and with a life expectancy of 36? Just so all the ladies can get a nice (and very common) diamond ring? Or looking after Aids patients in a ward of a hospital In South Africa that the ANC has not funded for 2 years so your not being paid?

I mean we are talking the world not the UK. There are working conditions around the world today that your great grandparents didn't have to do. Or a north Korean farmer?

I think we can acknowledge that many jobs are hard without dismissing each other.

I mean sure, the quadruple amputee with untreated AIDS who's a dissident in North Korea has a hard life, but he has so many benefits compared to (someone who has it worse), he should just be happy with his life, ungrateful git. Turn that smile upside down, you're literally not the most unlucky person in the world!

Rotor and engine wash. ---- that's just a mechanical job. Don't see what's so overly hard about it.

Landing on an moving carrier in rolling seas, or at night,

Fast moving and aircraft. ------ that is not working on deck, that is flying. Two different jobs and positions.

And that snippet is a freak accident. That is not part of the job description.

Police do fuck all.. Not a hard job tbh... They need to start doing their actual job for a change x

Right. Just because you don't see them running down the street in firefights all day long, doesn't mean they don't do their job. In fact, if you don't see them they are doing a good job!

true but a lot of the world lives like that. Sadly sl$very is rife in the world. And genuinly the worst job in the UK would be bliss to a vast amount of people always remember that. There is a quote from Warren buffet that goes along the lines of "even the lowest paid workers in the US today live lives that are better than the kings of 300 years ago" totally butchered but applies. Remember we have it ok even if not as well as the top 1 percent. But never stop fighting for more and better. Try and improve your life your health and your benefit to the people around you and if you do that we will continue to get better

agreed, the government need to take a hard look at themselves when they waste our tax on shit when the saints of the countries go un thanked. One point is if king Charles had forgone a extra bank holiday for his coronation we could have given a one year 4 percent bonus to all of the nhs staff. Waste needs to be tackled, unwanted days off, I would have taken a normal year and given them a 4 percent bonus. Beats clapping for the nhs clapping pays no bills.

My wife was an NHS carer and it is just exhausting.

I can't really say what the hardest job is since I haven't experienced every job but for me it was being a chef.

Exhausting, stressful and 90% of the people I've worked with used substance or alcohol as a coping mechanism.

Also camming can be pretty hard. I mean imagine making content when you just aren't in the mood for it but know you have to.
