“No new winks” (no old winks either).
Most of us don’t bother with winks but it’s there so someone can indicate potential attraction/interest.
Would it be better to have a left swipe / right swipe option like dating sites have? Might help more people meet. |

A couple of years ago I did a forum experiment to prove a point.
I said I was in on winkathon and fabathon threads that were running side by side and proceeded to wink and fab every woman and couple who said they were in each thread.
I didn't get a single wink or fab in return.
The point I was trying to prove was that some people join those threads just for the winks and fabs but have no intention of actually taking part.
The way I view the wink option is that if someone sends one and that is reciprocated, it's up to the sender to initiate conversation.
The last dozen or so winks that I've received and responded to have never gone any further because I didn't hear from them again.
Obviously their plan is to wink with the expectation that I will message back rather than just winking.
I have winks going back 6 months or so that I've only just seen this weekend.
If someone wants my attention a wink isn't the way to go about it.
Make an effort and write a half decent message instead. |

Sending a message or wink isn't going to boost my ego and it's far too much trouble. |

"I think so, I use them to indicate my interest
As do I … but most go unreciprocated- lol x

I’d rather wink. It just makes sense. If they wink back, I expect they’d like me to send a message. |

You just reminded me having read your musings! — last week I received a wink from a woman who followed it up by sending an introductory message. Apparently I had winked her over three years ago and she now felt compelled to wink back.
I found the gesture quite amusing and charming. |

According to my homepage I have over 3k new winks since I last looked.
So, to me, they're not worth anything.
Some people use them in ways already described above. Some people are firmly in the if you're interested then make the effort to send an actual message camp. It's very variable and open to individual interpretation.
It is rare to see a woman who actively looks at and engages with the who winked at me list, so it's probably not the best way to reach out to single women. I see plenty of men, couples and TVs who say they do utilise the feature to establish interest before messaging. So it depends on who your market is as to the likelihood of a wink ever being looked at. |

I look at my winks, but that's because no one new can message me. (That means no one new can wink either)
If/ when I decide to open my message filters, I won't look at them anymore. |

Didn't know this was a thing! I didn't try to wink you, honest. |

The right place |
So, in summary it’s a lottery. Some people look at them and others don’t.
I think it’s different whether you’re a man or a woman. If someone sends on to a single man, there’s greater chance they will get noticed.
Personally I like them. |

Women with 3k winks and hundreds of messages unopened in their inbox
Is contacting anyone worth it? Wink or message
Seems people inboxes are entirely too busy for it to be worth it all together |

'Useful' only if the person at whom you're glancing at is looking back at you... unbeknownst to you that directly behind you are 100s of other men also glancing at her, so she may not necessarily be looking at you....if at all.
If she does wink at you it may ·not· be a wink - she might be constipated. |

I just looked.
I have 13 winks since I rejoined.
10 men
1 woman
2 couples (one is a MM couple)
My deduction is that guys use the winks more than women…. I wonder why? |

I keep my inbox pretty clear and send a no to most before deleting, but a slow day is probably around 30 of those to get through. I've taken to hiding my profile for short periods when I just can't be arsed for a bit.
The people who I find interesting and engaging get proper responses, regardless of how many "No" messages I've sent that day. |

We don't check ours, we'll that's a lie actually, I click it once a day to clear the "X new winks" but I don't actually use the feature or look at who winked us.
Weirdly, I find it gives me the ick. Like being poked on social media |

Winks mean nothing to me.
If you're really interested in getting to know mw, think of something to say and send me a message.... It's not difficult.
One of the things that bugs me are profile that say something like "if we wink it means we're interested"... but still won't actually go so far as to send an opening message. |

I use winks as a shortcut hello...if I get one back then I take that as an indication to start chatting.
I know some see them as lazy, but rather than typing out the opening message countless times, save it for the ones that actually say hello with a return wink. |

Ah hence the 'more probably not' comment - but a fella can dream can't we even if it's delusional |

They work for some, they seem to piss others off quite a lot.
I find the violently negative opinions about them to be quite amusing.
For those who continually get ignored, it’s a harmless and simple way to show interest without wasting the time to concoct the tailor made war and peace message that will most likely be deleted unread.

For me , a winks as good as a fab! It's a subtle way of saying "heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy there, I like the look of you".
But not many people ever wink at me or even fav my pics!
(Again)BUT I live in hope that one day someone will wink me and fab me, we will meet and shag happily ever after. |

We like a wink and if there's something to the profile that has sent it do respond from time to time.
We also play the wink game where we look at who has viewed us and guess who may have winked. Minutes of fun. |

Yeah sometimes, if you're low on mental space to write a message but want to show someone you're interested then it can work to let them know. I don't always look at them but like with anything in here, what matters is who sends the wink. If I see a wink from a profile I'm interested in then the wink worked. If it's from a profile I'm not interested in then it didn't. |

Absolutely! If folks are interested, why not write a short message and explain what interests you? We find winks very lazy as most are just winkers hoping you will initiate a message. We got fed up initiating messages which came back with “Hi, how are you”. We ignore them now. M&B x |

We like the wink system, and do use it has a way to show interest in a couple. We do get a few, but lately we have found the people sending the wink haven’t read our profile and we have to message pointing the issues out |

We look at them and will return a wink if the interest is there.
Sometimes we’ll send a message instead of winking back too.
We received a wink off a woman yesterday…we sent a message and she opened it and never responded. I think she just wanted a wink back

"I've stopped deleting mine so people can't send them again.
What a cool idea!! "
You can send a wink again to the same profile a month after sending one - the ‘wink at who you’d fuck’ games would be pretty pointless if you could only wink at someone else in your FAB career
