Is it just me that finds most tattoos ridiculous?
I just don't see the point in disfiguring your body permanently with them.
I'm not saying all are bad, I've seen one or two that look ok, usually small ones.
I've no objection to people getting tattoos if they want them, each to their own, but personally I much prefer unmarked skin. |

I see the point, I wanted one, and it my body abb my d I don’t give a shit about a stranger’s opinion.
But, I do get bc a little bit of your sentiment about unmarked skin. I do think some tattoos are suited somewhere else on a body, but that just me and my personal taste. But it’s also individual.
Eg - I know a woman who absolutely suits the stars on her face. Kat von D. And I know a woman who doesn’t, just my opinion. So I keep it to myself. |

When you say it’s ridiculous and disfiguring your body there is no reply
I know people who have had tattoos to hide scars, cancer survivors who have nipples tattooed on after a mastectomy and re-construction, people with alopecia who have eye brows tattooed on, people who have self harmed having scars covered.
By your reckoning they are ridiculous
Don’t judge one persons reason for having a tattoo to someone else’s |

M had breast cancer four years ago and subsequent mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, she struggled to find her reflection attractive, all she could do was focus on the scar.
Until very recently she has had a tattoo over the breast and she now loves her body again.
So me I see tattoos as a very positive thing.
But we all like different things and that’s what makes the world go around. |

I have two which are basically joined to create one larger one.
I got the first 8 years ago to commemorate the loss of my mum and to reinforce newly found inner strength.
The second was a few years later to remind myself of my continuing journey.
I've no idea what complete strangers think of them because they aren't visible in my daily life but they have significance to me and therefore I couldn't care less if people don't like them.

A have a few but my full batman sleeve (based on the arkham asylum game) is truly a piece of art. It took 5 years and I dread to think of the cost.
It was done by the top UK tattooist before he moved to LA to work for kat von D. Answers to common questions
Did that hurt?
Of course every minute hurt like shit
Do you know that's on your body for life?
Now you tell me! Best washing it with lynx shower gel every day and it's still there.
Aren't you worried what it will look like when you're old?
Probably won't live that long but if I do I'll sit in the pub with all the other senile tattooed weirdos |

Sounds like an awesome collection! There must be some really valuable comics in there!!
Batman is pretty cool. Always liked him, loved the early Batman movies but never got into the most recent ones.
I’d probably never get ink done but I can really admire other peoples artwork. Is that weird? |

I don't have tattoos but love the look of them. Some people have a deeper meaning behind theirs, some because it looks cool but it's totally their choice.
Personally, I would never get them because aside from being a wuss when it comes to needles, there's nothing that meaningful that I would have permanently inked on my skin and my tastes change so what I think is cool now, might not be the case 20 years from now. |

Most tattoos resemble some kind of story from there life or a significant impact it left whereas others just something that they like which they did because they liked it and didn't need someone's opinion on if it was ok |

Not a fan, not against them either.
Well, I tell a lie. I'm against calligraphic Arabic tattoos where the owner has failed to understand the language and written an embarrassing amateurish word in disconnected disjointed letters because the PC they used to type the word out on and show to their artist didn't support proper Arab diacritics.

I have three beautiful colourful ones that represent my surving children, I am planning on two more in a darker colour to represent the children I lost. So to me it has never been a fashion statement or even anyone else's opinion mattering, they have held meaning so are precious to me.
So to me, in my personal experience, they have meaning. |

Wow OP, what a statement.
Personally I love tattoos, I have 2 small ones and a full sleeve. Do I care if others like it? No. I do, that's what matters.
They all tell part of my story and match where I was in my life when I got them. And are great conversation starters. I am always interested in why people got their tattoos and what they mean to them (even I just like xxxx is a validly answer)

Similar to the American who wanted to celebrate his Irish heritage by getting an old Gaelic phrase tattooed on his arm or leg not sure which.
It read
"go rachainn go dtí an leithreas le do thoil".
He was so proud of it and showed it off all over social media and wasn't impressed when he was informed that it literally translated as "Please may I go to the toilet?" |

Used to have a Chinese friend that liked translating people's tattoos when out and about, toilet seat was a favourite.
I guess for most people, tattoos for the recipient not for the beholder. Certainly the case with mine, it's the experience of the getting, the thing it reminds me of, what it looks like to me that matters |

I have no tattoos, mainly because I was put off them many years ago by friends saying I didn't have “the right body” for them and, like a naïve fool, I believed what they said to the point that it's so deeply ingrained in my conscience that I doubt I could ever be convinced to get one now. Ironically, all these friends had at least one tattoo themselves and wanted to get more. I know it's a bit off-topic, but it still annoys me to this day that I was so easily manipulated |

I love tattoos on myself and others, but its an individuals choice to have them. If people have an issue it's their issue, not mine. I do generally find that the people who have very strong anti-tattoo sentiments have the ugliest personalities and are most hypocritical people I've had the misfortune to cross paths with. But each to their own. |

I personally love tattoos on myself and others. Like a walking canvas or a moving art gallery.
But I think it's good that you have your opinion on what you like also, everyone is different.
What I don't like was the random statement of abuse I received in my inbox last week regarding my tattoos from a troll. Kind of unnecessary really. Opinions fine - being a douche is not |

Tattoos are more prevalent than ever now especially in the younger generations
All these people who are so anti tattoos will they tell a tattooed surgeon not to operate on them, a tattooed lawyer not to represent them in court etc etc
What someone choses to do to their body should not mean you can judge them because trust me if you ever needed their help I’m sure their ink wouldn’t deter you in asking |

I love tattoos, especially when they're meaningful to the person who has them.
I don't feel strongly enough about anything to get it inked into my skin (except for my eyebrows - without the tattoos I am eyebrowless), but my lack of tats isn't due to my judging them. |

Same, I don't like tattoos very much. But I find those people who constantly get tattoos just to get attention ridiculous, and that is even more of a turn off for me.
Pretentious beyond heavens, always pretending like their tats all have deeper meaning than "I thought it would look cool".
Can't stand those people.
And I really avoid people with face tattoos |

I have one, I don't love it but pretty indifferent to them either way. I tend to like random, meaningless ones on others rather than sentimental ones. Think I just don't understand the tattoos that are for someone, dead or alive. I just don't know what that really means. But lots of people like them, so all good, none of my business. |

Some people have stunning tattoos that look glorious on them.
Some people I don't particularly like what they've got on their skin.
Either way it's their choice and their body. If their aesthetic choices increase or decrease their attractiveness to me is pretty irrelevant unless we've already established a base mutual interest. |

I'm covered in a big white ink tattoo.
'Disfiguring'is a bit much, that's a very strong way to feel about something.
You can't really lump all tattoos into the same box either, some people have extreme body mods and tattoos and some have tattoos you would never know are there. People have tattoos for every different reason you can think and in every different style.
Some people like them and some people don't. Obviously. But it's non sensical to try and combine them all into one pigeon hole. |
