Said a top UK judge on sentencing a murderer.
Is this true.
Are all bullies cowards or all cowards bullies.
Are they mutually exclusive?
Can you be a bully and definitely not a coward...
This sentence was all over the news

Bullies have issues, but that issue is not always that they're a coward.
I think the notion comes from the fact, that bullies never pick on someone who can defend themselves. But they don't necessarily pick on weaker people because they're scared. They do, because their victims just let them.
Bullies and bullied are drawn to each other like magnets. No one gets randomly chosen and then bullied no matter what, bullies bully people who let themselves get bullied. Insecure people who can't stand up for themselves. Who always ends up as the butt of the jokes because they don't know how to banter and joke back, and then just end up as a punching bag. The types who try to "ignore" bullies and let them say whatever they want because they have no better response to it.
The types that are obviously insecure about themselves (overweight, sole foreigner, stuttering, glasses etc...). They are just less likely to fight back.

"Bullies aren't well known for bullying people more dangerous than themselves. "
The basic psychology behind bullying is, that the bullies push others down to push themselves up on their behalf in a social hierarchy.
There are always people who are more popular than others. You will never be the most popular person in the world by pushing others down, but at least that way they don't end up on the bottom of the ladder, which is even worse.
But it's not random. Bullies don't just walk over the schoolyard and pick someone random on their first day and make it their goal to bully them.
It takes two to tango.
One needs to have the issues from home to be a bully in the first place, and you need someone with personal issues, that they let themselves get bullied.
It's usually outsiders, people with strong insecurities. Kids who stutter, are fat, wear glasses. Kids who don't know how to behave in a social setting as well as the other kids. Etc.
It usually starts with a few innocent jokes, the bullies make with all the other kids, and then it becomes more and more clear that some kids let themselves be the butt of the jokes more often than others, and so they sort of hone in one them and target them more and more.
The bullies don't avoid more dangerous people, they are just naturally drawn to weaker ones.
Bullies don't want a challenge, they just want to stomp others down so that they are above them. |

What? Why? Bullies pick on weak kids. What's wrong with that? |

Cowards to their bully which in term makes them bully others, it's a vicious cycle. I don't like the word coward though, it's more scared than anything else. |
