I would have a conversation about expectations, like with everything else in any kind of 'ship.
As I don't like 'stuff' my preference is to share an experience - head to a spa or nice hotel for a day/ night, get tickets to show. Depends on what you do together really. |

Newest trend is to buy something like a experience, vouchers etc most my friends asked not to give there kids presents as they get too much crap they've not place to put and would much prefer vouchers for there hobbies. |
