little house on the praire

Who saves up for something they want then go and buy it and who buys stuff and then pays it off afterwards.

From some of the stuff i read, it seems that some dont want to save up.

Ive always saved for things and then gone abought them.

Which do you do

There is no right or wrong answer its just a curiosity question

We don't buy anything unless we have the cash in the bank/building society to pay for it....it hasn't always been that way of course because like millions of others we started with a mortgage and built our financial stability up over many years of hard work....and luck.

ive never had anything on credit, i dont owe any loans or have a credit card, my house isnt posh but everything in it is paid for, i also only spend what i can afford for christmas, i dont get people who spend thousands then spend all year paying it off, only to go thro it all again next xmas, i dont even use catalogues

My kids may not get everything they want they do get everything they need tho and what i can afford them besides

If i dont have the money for it, we go without, id sooner that than hide behind the door every time someone knocks on it like some people do

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Bit of both. I won't buy things on credit any more after dragging myself out of debt, but I didn't have the spare cash to buy my house so am borrowing for that!

I usually save up, unless it's something big like a car and I need it now.

Trying to teach the kids to do the same. They have money and are allowed to buy whatever they like. Lots of times toys go in the trolley... then half way round the shop they go put them back as they decide they don't want them enough, and would rather save the money.

If I can afford to buy it - I buy it on credit card and pay it off fully the next month. Why shouldn't I get the extra month's (meagre) interest on my money?

I also get the protection buying on a card gives me...

I'm saving up at the moment so I can camp out at Oulton Park for the weekend to watch WBS in May. I can't wait..

I always save for things I want, never buy over my means, not worth putting yourself in debt for anything..

I really wonder how many people have become more careful with spending on credit cards since the recession.

i dont think a house counts, i mean how many people do have the money to buy a house out right? getting a morgane is just part of life, for me credit is getting a loan to pay for a hoilday or buying a huge TV and surround sound we cant really afford but want anyway

I have always done without until I had saved the money. I bought my 1st thing on credit two years ago. I only did that because it was interest free.

Was it a onesie?

And why was no-one interested?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I use my credit card to get the vouchers and cash-back. I pay it off in full every month but I've never really saved for anything specific.

I buy 'some' things on credit, ie new sofa's but only because it was on interest free, I could have paid for them outright but then my little nest egg, would have been swalled up and seeing as I am on my own, I like to have a little tucked away 'just in case'

However, I don't have any debt or credit cards, in fact the bank took away my credit card in December, because I had never used it! Thought that was a bit bizarre but hey ho lol

It took me nine years to save to renovate my house in one go...then my daughter announced she was getting married, funds had to be diverted, but only the cooker was put on the credit card.

I've set a budget for my holiday plus spending money and I've already saved for that now saving for Christmas and next years holiday.

I would buy on interest free credit as i would still be getting the interest in my bank. But if i wanted to go on holiday would save for it, i enjoy saving, took me ages to save to get my bedroom done but was so pleased with it, jay did buy the furniture for me for christmas but i paid for everything else and it was comletly gutted

"I really wonder how many people have become more careful with spending on credit cards since the recession. "

Without giving too much away, this question is relevant to my job, and I can definitely say people are much less willing to borrow than they were. In particular the old "remortgage to pay off the cards, then rack up the debts again" routine has pretty much ended. Thank god.

Might have to get a loan out soon so I can try my first club night though!
