Alternatives to paint or tiles in Bathroon please?

Hi we’re looking at getting our bathroom redecorated, the bath /shower is tiles, so it’s just two walls to do, one is empty & the other has sink & toilet so cutting round pipes etc.

ATM both walls are painted but not done well, if you try & clean them the paint comes off.

I guess the cheapest option is some better paint, but the walls would need to be prepped & in 2 or 3 years would need to be done again.

Is there a better (albeit probably more expensive) option that would last. Wallpaper, or some kind of splashback like you’d have in a steam room maybe? Looking for something easy to clean but could also add some colour or design maybe ( don’t want white).

I have lots of ideas but don’t know what to search for.

Many thanks in advance.

Sounds like ordinary emulsion may have been used instead of bathroom paint, possibly without proper priming and prep. Having to redo paint is a pain but it shouldn't need redoing that soon if done properly.

Most likely what ever it was it was just one coat & hasn’t lasted 2 years. Fancied something more durable & easier to clean, guess any of the ones mentioned above, the walls wouldn’t need any prep work, it’s just how easy installation would be on the more awkward wall.

I'm just in the process of doing a ceiling with upvc panelling, it looks fabulous and is very easy to install. There's a slightly heavier duty version of it that is sold for doing walls, and specifically bathrooms, might be worth you looking at. I've not done any walls with it so can't comment on how durable it is, but my guess is that it's loads better than just painted walls.

The stuff basically comes as planks 25 cm wide by long enough to do full height of a normal room. You cut to correct length with a Stanley knife, put glue on the back of it, and it just sticks onto the wall. There's a tongue and groove arrangement so that the planks fit together giving a perfect smooth surface.

Available with a variety of different surface colours and patterns, I'm using a white wood finish for my ceiling, for walls there's things like marble pattern or even a fake tile type pattern.

Not desperately cheap, but in terms of looks vs cost vs ease of installation vs zero maintenance, I decided it was about the most economic method of transforming my awful ceiling into some that looks pretty fab.

Sounds good is there a brand name to search for? Thanks.

This.

Bathroom or kitchen paint is better as it repels moisture more. You can use eggshell as well as that’s washable/wipeable

Not particularly. I got mine from a company called Easy Panels, but I also looked at Floors-to-Walls and DBS Bathrooms. There's quite a few other companies that do these types of panels, but those three seemed to be cheapest. The only real difference between them was which finishes and colours they sold. Easy Panels did a matt finish woodgrain pattern that I liked for my ceiling, DBS only did woodgrain in gloss etc. If you check out their websites, they will send free samples (small offcuts) so you can see what the various finishes look like.

I used the wood look stick on planks on bottom half of walls bought them for the floor and got more to continue up the wall they stick very well in a nice shade of blue! Added a dildo rail as I call it along the top of them then painted the top yellow and used a sponge to texture it x
