My mums 100 on the 31st of December. Still living in her own place. But, she's the type of person who doesn't want or need anything, and what you do buy her she gives away.
Anyone got any great ideas to what we should get her? |

My dad is 96 he doesn't want anything either. I've bought a tin of hot chocolate from Mark's and Spencers that in the shape of a house and lights up. It was £4 I think. He likes hot choc and the house will make a little Christmas decoration.

Would she enjoy the publicity of having her photo in the local paper? Maybe get in touch with the paper and tell them she's turning 100. She can tell them her secret to a long life etc and maybe have a photo done with all her relatives |

I think if someone doesn't want gifts and demonstrates that by actually giving them away it's probably best not to give them anything other than your company and love. I guess when you've lived as long as them you know what's important in your life. |

My grandmother used to say do not waste your money, but if you did not buy anything she be angry. |

Does she drink? You can't go wrong with someones favorite tipple.
Maybe cook her a nice meal, bake something etc. When the Mr's grandad turned 100 last year, we made truffles and put cash towards his betting, he always put a bet on the horses on Birthdays & Christmas |

My mum used to say the same but she was gift giver and enjoyed it. People bought her things anyway then she'd complain that she didn't want them. Eventually I had to sit down with her and explain that people got pleasure from giving her things just as she did and she should accept the gifts she was given with the same grace people accepted hers.
Personally I think if a gift is given with genuine motives it should be accepted as a good gesture |

Hi all, the day came and she got a card from the King & Queen. Though kept asking about all the other cards with 100 on them, saying its a mistake she's only 93 haha.
Thank you for all of your great comments. |

Ah brilliant, congratulations to her!!
I know it's a bit after the fact, but see if you can find a 'From You to Me' book - you gift it to the person and in it they're asked lots of questions about thier life, and they fill it in with thier memories. My dad did one before dementia got him and I love looking back on it now, reading such things as what the first record he ever bought was or his favorite sweeties from childhood. |

Make a massive birthday party with all the kids, grand kids great-grand kids.
Make a lot of photos and videos, then possibly make a massive photo album.
Memories are more precious for her, than any other presents probably. |
