do not panic, a lot of employers are not looking at people already in work, even though its only for another month.

There are too many people ready to start the next day at the moment.

Keep your pecker up and i am sure you will find something soon.

I'm on a temporary contract that finishes on Friday and nothing else to go to. Was just told yesterday. Signing on at agencies in the hope of some work. I have three kids at home too.

Good luck.

Was a joke, but if I try to explain it in detail then it just fails.

Hope the job seeking goes well.

"is it worth writing cover letters? do recruiters really read them?"

I read cover letters. If there's a spelling mistake, obvious grammatical error or other literacy blooper, it gets shredded and does not get past me.

Tip for you, take a look at organisations/companies that specialise in your line of work/expertise, ie google. Take an afternoon off from agencies as there is a huge pool of folk looki g for work at present and unless you can shit golden eggs, it's just another piece of paper someone has to read... After finding companies that do what you do, get a list of contacts, Find out from various sources via the ninja net who is next/senior to the receptionist who is point of contact for most places for hr stuff. Get a banging cover letter together focusing on your strong points, but also highlight one or two bad points in you career and how you managed to over come them without a bead of sweat. As mentioned before, a picture does help, not many folk do it, so it puts you in the long term memory of who ever sees your papers. Once that and your cv are complete, ma them to the co facts you gathered earlier.....why? Due to various companies now havi g the pick of the crop of potential employees, labour is(not much mind) cheaper, givi g company bank sheets a rosier tone, this means firms are creating jobs for the higher tier employees/board member and the like, meaning people all move up a notch, by targeting g the companies direct, you are potentially pipping all the the post as prospect vacancies are not advertised before they exist, you could land the job before it ends up on the agency books where everyone and his dog are applying!!! Hope that helps. X

Well, now we've tarted up your cv, and looked at the local agencies as well as nationals, you should get some interest.

Don't forget to look at the local supermarkets for a tide over job. Even part time will help. X x

Get it printed, rather than photocopied. Recruiters can tell.

"In my last job I had to write a 4 page letter of interest so yes they do read them..."

I'm not sure that's an indication that recruiters do pay attention to content.

I suspect it's just part of the ing out process.

To those looking for new employment I wish you all the very best of luck. Good to see others offering help (gives me hope that there are still some good people left).

I got so tired of my employer not holding up their part of the contract & bonus, then using the economic situation to slash employees remuneration that I finally walked & tried self employed. It's better than expecting any employer to play fair & look after their staff & I'm much happier knowing anything I earn is down to my hard work.
