Glasgow

A very long week here of being on call for various emergencies ends tomorrow evening. At that point, whisky will be involved. Being in the Highlands, I'll risk my life if I pronounce it with an 'e' - and, more importantly, I won't get served.

May your dram do you good, OP.

I don't have to get up ever, so I have a drink every now and then. Currently aboard is a distillers edition from 2014.

Good drop. Pairs very well with a strong nicaraguan cigar

There is no dura I know of and I googled, too, so I suppose he meant jura.

Funny because those two are not at all similar in palate. Jura 10 was also one of my very first whiskys. Obviously had to have a bottle there when I sailed to jura, which was amazing. Scotland always seemed so far away when I was younger

Don't know where I heard it, but do you perhaps know the story of the man who bought a whisky each year for every birthday of his son and stored them in the cellar? He kept them until he was old enough.

It#s not only investment but also memory creating, once he is old enough to maybe open a bottle or two of those with dad

right now a cask runs you approx 5 k a year, if you can wait 20 to 25 you may be sitting on 1 million depending on the distillery,, good retirement plan or investment for the kids

That is a very confusing answer. The big chunk to my west here, where I am now, is the big nothingness of the atlantic until you hit the americas. Or, in my head still, france, due to my heritage.

But you probably mean islay, where the best whiskies in the world are from.

It's true, but he didn't buy a 5k cask every year. More like a 100 pounds bottle every year. Not as good in aging as a cask obviously, but the bottles get rarer over time still.

Buddy of mine had land in his family where they used to have a distillery in the 18th century, but that was closed down (the english came taxing) and the building was just there rotting, some old ruin. They wnated to repurpose the land and tear it down and found a few old crates of whisky in there, left behind. Not sure if accidentally or on purpose, but at the end good 70% of the bottles were destroyed, but the few still existing ones were good 120 years old or so. Sold for a pretty penny per bottle. He kept the majority though to keep aging them even more.

They can do a nice whisky though? Don't just put your nose in the air and pretend it's crap just because it's american.

There are really nice bourbons out there.

Try a Wild Turkey 101 or Wild Turkey Bourbon, or the Rye variation, or the rare breed (that's 4 different whiskies all made by wild turkey. You could say I am somewhat of a fan.)

The JD Gentleman's Jack is really nice, too, but I prefer the Single Barrel version

Send the crates my way and I handle the rest.

No but seriously. There are many mucky scotch out there, too. Especially if you go by what's "popular". The most popular "rum" is kraken over here Doesn't mean a thing.

Just try the rare breed and you'll have something really nice. I prefer that over 65% of the scotch I drank, and i am certainly not an enemy of scotch at all

IT'S NOT EVEN RUM!!!! IT'S "SPICED" RUM

Damn. Sorry. I just hate it so much. Spiced rum is like a totally different drink, it's basically just pure ethanol made in steel barrels within a few weeks and then infused with artifical spices and colouring.

People kept telling me "I don't like rum" so I said "okay, try this. It's not rum" "Oh that's delicious, what is it?" "Real rum".

You know when you get cheap whisky and drink it and you're like "ugh, that's disgusting whisky?" but you know it is at least an attempt at whisky? Rum is the opposite. If it's bad rum it doesn't even closely taste like good rum at all, you wouldn't even be able to guess it's the same drink.

Sorry. Rant over. And yes, I feel better.
