Personally, I think that everyone should watch ALL of the StarWars films, but many will disagree.

There was a film in the late 90's called Pay it Forward, I though that THIS had a profound message that everyone would benefit from understanding.

A less serious consideration..

'Everything you always wanted to know about sex' (but were afraid to ask). I can't imagine it won many awards, a little incoherent and some scenes were not amazing. BUT I've nominated it for the skit with Woody Allen playing as a perturbed sperm and Gene Wilder who falls in love with a sheep.

The great thing about forums is the differing opinions. My immediate reaction to the OP’s post was Pulp Fiction, as I love the dialogue, the characters and the way the scenes shift back and forward re. timelines.

I can see what it’s not everybody’s cup of tea (in the same way that Lost in Translation left me bemused over what all the fuss was about).

""All quiet on the western front". A beautiful movie and one of my favourites of all time."

Which version?

I think the 1930 original is a cinematic masterpiece (apologies if this makes my sound like a pretentious twat) and the recent Netflix version is as good a film as I have seen for many years. Less keen on John Boy Walton’s version. I kept expecting them to shout “Night grandma, night Mary Lou” over the trenches.

The problem with the message is that it is used to cloud over such a horrible shit show of a movie that it is. It's like some sort of fever dream.

Toy story did a better Barbie and Ken than the Barbie movie did!

Honestly, if you want the message, just watch America Ferrera's speech clip, and save so much time.

A good few mentions of ones that I would pick, so 2 that haven't had a recommendation:

Dog Day Afternoon - John Cazale was only in a handful of films before he died, but there's not a bad one among them and seeing as Godfather has a mention, give this a go!

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnasus - watched it a few times and see something new in it each time.

"Lots have already been listed, but as a left field suggestion 'Children of Men'. Massively underrated 2006 film set in a not too distant future that is scarily believable "

It's not that underrated. Regularly appears near the top in lists of best sci fi movies of a all time.

I always thought that Shane meadows has had some kind of personal experience similar to this film the way its portrayed its almost like real life like he's talking form experience

"Strangedays

&

Fallen "

Two very under-rated films - if you like Fallen I recommend a novel called Valley Of Lights by Stephen Gallagher which Fallen...ahem...has similarities to. In totally unrelated news, Valley...was shopped around Hollywood for a film adaptation in the years before Fallen was made but it's a total coincidence that there are so many similar scenes in both.

I met Paddy Considine at a screening of it in Dublin and the guy beside me got him to write "you, ya cunt" on a piece of paper instead of an autograph lol

"“Cloud Atlas” , tagline - everything is connected.

Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant amongst others.

In his 2017 Guardian interview, Tom Hanks said of the film that it “altered my entire consciousness”, and is also “the only movie I’ve been in that I’ve seen more than twice”.

I’m a fan of Cloud Atlas, unfortunately I don’t think anyone else is."

Ooooh, two of us!

Amazing film - Did you know Shane Meadows father found the body of a young girl in a MSA and was a suspect in the case - Shane got bullied at school over this incident.

Amadeus (when Salieri swears revenge against god and puts the crucifix in the fire, I was watching it on a flight to Bogota, and the gasps that went up from the passengers - magic! Equally they clapped raucously when the pilot touched down, so possibly just less reserved than Brits)
