Hence limited photos on my page"
Yes! My mirror does this too. |

It might be just you feel that way.
Get someone of the opposite sex to take it. You may not like it but some outside opinion might help.
Look at a mirror and find what you like and then stick with those sides. |

My dog looks like me, ugly brute!
When I post a pic with me and my dog, it does not seem to get approved (I blame the dog - ugly brute!) |

Selfies:
With chilled/poker face I look like angry Mike Tyson, but I don't bite.
*
With forced/pretend smile I look like the terminator trying to smile.
*
I look okay after orgasm, so I might try to take selfies after a wank next time.
*
Try to avoid photos with sunglasses.
I scare the shit out of myself.
Look like a thug.
*
Clean shaved I look like an innocent teenager with some gray hair, who didn't sleep for a week.
*
On family photos 99% of the time I look good.
***Good = Best I can*** |

I find this quite interesting. Photography has become so ubiquitous in our media saturated world, that our ability to ‘read’ an image has significantly increased, at the same time as the standards of image-making have fallen. We click a button on our phone, with no understanding of lighting, and no appreciation of composition, and little conception of editing apart from a single click filter or that ‘photoshopping’ is bad, but we expect to look like a A-lister on the cover of a (digital) magazine. Photography has almost been forgotten as an art form, even though we hold ourselves to those standards.

"What I've never understood is if people don't look like they do in their photos then how come you always recognise them when you meet them in person?"
I love this response.
I have also heard " I look better in person" from experience. Identical is the word I would use. |

Phones with cameras have timers on so you don’t have to hold your phone whilst taking a pic.
Means you can stand further back rather than taking an awkward selfie in the mirror.
It will help a lot more in the types of pics you can take

I'm not great at taking photos. I'm rather lazy and take them when I feel like it rather than thinking too much about it. I'm also not great in photos - I don't have a particularly photogenic face/body.
I don't mind if people don't have great photos - seeing someone in person, the way their eyes light up, the way their face becomes animated... that's far more important to me. And it would be a tad hypocritical to expect photographic perfection when mine are... far from it. |

I disagree with that.
I think your photos are awesome from every angle.

... looking at a photo of yourself and thinking 'I don't look like that' is a bit like hearing a recording of your own voice and thinking - 'I don't sound like that'

I saw a guy for awhile who came on recommendation from a friend. She told me to ignore his pictures as they didn't do him justice. His photos where a little suspect. When I met him I was really surprised as he was really handsome, just took a bad photo |

Feel like a lot of it is about confidence in front of a camera. If you feel uncomfortable you look uncomfortable which isn't exactly a sexy look. Photos also flatten as they are 2D not 3D so they do alter the general look of a person and for some that doesn't do them any favors.
I tend to dislike about 90% of the photos I take

"I can't seem to take a decent head shot
I am very critical of myself "
Well take it from one who doesn't give unwarranted compliments and has no ulterior motive, your photos look great. Apply the same technique to a face or head shot and you'll be fine I'm sure. Take loads and choose the best one or get a mate to take a few when you're unaware. |

Most people are very self critical. I hate pics of myself and run for the hills whenever someone pulls out the camera. Same with listening to my own voice.. even though the yanks and brits at work love the Irish accent, I think I sound awful |

My brother regularly sends me videos of the country he lives in with him giving a commentary. I do the same in return occasionally but hate the sound of my voice do much I don't talk even though he knows exactly how I sound from frequent voice calls |

One of the reasons I'm usually behind the camera instead of in front is because I have low esteem of my photogenicity.
I've always used high end gear and get exhibition worthy results, but I've also used my phone to do a wedding and had better results than a professional photographer.
To take a good photograph, you first have to see a good photograph. It doesn't matter what equipment you have but you must know how to use it.
With a selfie, you can't see the picture properly but some people are superb at them.
Selfies, themselves, are an art form.
My daughter can't take a good picture with any equipment, but her cosplay selfies get into magazines.
Unless you have that selfie gift, I'd recommend anyone to get a competent photographer to take their pictures for them. |

Real photography, that involves film being developed, etc portrays my beauty. If it involves software, AI, etc, there's a universal algorithm glitch, that ensures I am processed to look like a rabid dog . . I am no longer for this algorithm world
