"I've always wondered why Die Hard gets the special discussion over whether its a Christmas film so much. No one really goes "Oh Lethal Weapon and Batman Returns are great Christmas films" when they are set during that period too." I think Die Hard gets it so much because other films have Christmas as a setting. Christmas is just there, visually. With Die Hard, you can dissect the narrative and see the same structure as classic Christmas tales. Just with more guns and boom-booms.

"Die Hard is a Christmas movie yes or no? " 100% yes it's a Christmas movie. Not only is it set at Christmas, the heist occuring during the Christmas period is central to the plot. It also has a classic rom com ending for both Holly and John as well as John and Powell.
"Not sure - I’ve not seen it. " I know what you should be doing this Christmas time then. Find a hot hunk on here and watch it together haha. Die Hard and chill

"I've always wondered why Die Hard gets the special discussion over whether its a Christmas film so much. No one really goes "Oh Lethal Weapon and Batman Returns are great Christmas films" when they are set during that period too." Because Die Hard is better than both of those. Plus at its core is about a man doing whatever he can to be with his family for Christmas, Die Hard is no more or less a Christmas Movie than It's a Wonderful Life. Though personally a much better movie than IAWL.
"It's not Christmas until I see Hans Gruber fall from Nakatome tower " This scene is now available as an advent calendar.

"Die Hard is a Christmas movie yes or no? " Absofuckinglutely and anyone who disagrees is a psychopath.
"Die Hard is a Christmas movie yes or no? " No. Die Hard is THE Christmas movie
| |||
"No because it doesn’t span Christmas Day which is the most important. " is it? The majority of the Christmas celebrating world actually celebrate Christmas on 24th, not 25th. Lots of other Christmas movies don't take place on Christmas day - The Santa Clause, Home Alone, all of those Hallmark Christmas movies that have the same single white girl goes to her home town for Christmas after a break up and falls in love with the super model perfect man whom is also divorced. those ones, rarely take place on Christmas day. Technically even THE Christmas movie, Muppets Christmas Carol doesn't really take place on Christmas day.
"Die Hard is a Christmas movie yes or no? " No, it's THE Christmas movie
"Don’t know I’ve never seen it. get out... " Not sure how, but it’s true!

"The director has said that it wasn’t meant to be a Christmas film but has become one and there are definite references to It’s A Wonderful Life. Any film that ends with a snow scene and Christmas music is a Christmas movie! " To be fair It's a wonderful life wasn't meant to be a Christmas movie either. It was made as Oscar bait to be released in January. It then fell in to public domain due to copyright reasons and every TV station/network was able to show it all the time for free, and show it they did during christmas. Majority of the movie doesn't even take place during christmas.

"No. Is it a movie set at Christmas time? Yes. Is it a Christmas film? No, because it's themes are not centered around Christmas. It just happens to be set at Christmas. Just ask yourself. Could this film have happened at any other time in the year and still work? The answer is a resounding yes, so no it's not a Christmas film. " That applies to the vast majority of Christmas movies. Home alone. It's a wonderful life. Even A Christmas Carol could be set at any other time of the year.

"Bruce Willis even made a point of saying that it isn't a Christmas film. What gets me though is how many people are of the view tgat 'The nightmare begore Christmas' is a Christmas film. It isn't. It's a Halloween film. It was even realeased at the end of October back in 1993. Around Halloween" Good for Bruce, I guess. One of the writers, Steven E. de Souza, has said it is. Nightmare released as a Halloween movie, more so because it was marketable as that and would never have been able to stand up to the power of holiday season blockbusters. It essentially could have gone either way. That is what makes nightmare the beauty that it is, it is both and it works so well as both. Shane Black movies, all those are Christmas movies too! Go enjoy the festive cheer.

Quite literally the worst example to use for your argument lol. A Christmas Carol, Scrooge hates Christmas, and by the end, enjoys it. A Christmas Story. A. Christmas. Story. Wet bandits could have done any of those easy. Storm, again easy to make work for another time of year. However your own argument FOR Home Alone is the same reason FOR Die Hard, they attack Nakatomi Plaza specifically because it is Christmas, because it is the Christmas party. For their plan to work it had to be christmas. Scrooge hates people, not just christmas. The story still works if you pluck it out of the Christmas setting. You take him right out of christmas, drop in to halloween/easter/birthday, hell it doesn't even need to be a holiday it can be a big life event,gets visited by 3 ghosts, sees the error of his ways and bang. You have Christmas movie plot that works for another time of the year - It is a Ghost Story after all. Point is, the plots of these movies are no more difficult to place in to another time of the year than Die Hard is. Granted A Christmas Story is pretty much exactly that, but I did say majority, not all Christmas Movies. So long as people continue to champion It's A Wonderful Life as a Christmas movie (a much worse version of Christmas Carol, with horrible life lessons), I will continue to champion that Die Hard is one too.

I completely disagree but hey ho, or shall I say, ho ho. There needs to be a level as to how centered Christmas is to a story, to consider it such a film. Home Alone, and Christmas Carol were far more centered around the holidays than Die Hard. Lastly, for a 'Christmas' film that was released in July, with an ending of a man falling 100 stories to his death, isn't very festive, but hey I'm no psychopath.

Story about a man risking his life to be with his family for Christmas, ho ho ho I have a machine gun. The release of a Christmas movie doesn't really matter. As much as I hate it as a Christmas movie, It's a Wonderful Life was set to be released at the end of January (they changed it in a panic due to no actual Christmas release). Home Alone had 2 men being subjected to all kinds of deadly traps, many of which would have killed a person in reality - not exactly Christmas cheer in itself is it - Violent Night very much focused on Christmas and is full of violence.
