Who is your favorite blues artist?

For me it's :

1. Gary Moore

2. Buddy Guy

3. Johnny Copeland

4. Albert King

5. Jonny Lang

6. Muddy Waters

7. Richie Sambora (Solo stuff)

8. Little Richard

I like 1 or 2 songs from many more artists though.

Mostly Chicago or Texas Blues I think.

John Lee H**ker for me.

I watched a really good documentary on Netflix the other day about Robert Johnson called Devil at the Crossroads, if you haven't seen it you should give it a watch.

I like some J.L. H o o k e r.

Some of his late stuff is okay as well.

I've watched and read stories about R. Johnson. He's good, but I'm more into electric than acoustic blues.

I know he sold his soul to the devil for his musical talent.

The first time I met the blues

People, you know I was walkin', I was walkin' down through the woods

Yes, the first time, the first time I met you, blues

Blues you know I was walkin', I was walkin' down through the woods

Yes, I've watched my house burnin' blues

Blues, you know you done me, you done me all the harm that you could

Buddy Guy was playing a big part there.

Love albert Collins.

Stevie Ray's blues sounded a bit too white for me.

His Superstition cover in the other hand, was better than the original from Stevie Wonder.

Yes but I’m no officinado.

I probably couldn’t name a lot of what has appealed to me when I’ve heard it.

Of the more modern stuff, I could name Rory Gallagher and Peter Green but I guess that’s more rock based blues.

Oh no denying Muddy was great but it didn't start with only him. Like all genres there are lots of roots

Oh, Peter Green.

Jumping at shadows is awesome.

If someone likes Gary Moore, then obviously heard of Peter Green.

Then Fleetwood Mac became a pile of crap.

Howlin Wolf is the boss. Lightnin' Hopkins is an excellent vibe on a warm evening with a cold beer.

I was watching a documentary with all the big old blues men.

I think it was when they praised and criticised Gary Moore. "Less is more" stuff.

Anyway, they were talking about the old days (60's-70's).

Apparently they started to make some money and fame after Stones, Zeppelin and other bands released some blues influenced songs.

Until then they just made enough money to take the show to the next city.

Jeff Healey is awesome.

Especially his guitar playing technique.

He's done a really good version of "When a blind man cries".

So glad someone mentioned Samantha Fish at last!

Also in the modern blues mix - Dust Radio - not least as my daughter's partner plays an awesome harmonica with them

I need to check out Rory Gallagher.

Mentioned a few times and I know they were good friends with Gary Moore.

Paper Town Central, Essex.

Blind Lemon Clegg.

One of the all time greatest Lancashire Blues Singers.

Often supported by Fred and his Dancing Ferrets

In all sincerity though, it just has to be Joe Bonamassa.

I found a page on YT that does incredible Whiskey Blues compilations, from which I was introduced to Brian Grey - Smooth Night which is one of my favourite tracks and in so many of my playlists.

I wish I could play the piano or guitar like that

Famously when the Rolling Stones visited Chess Studios Muddy Waters was earning some money painting it. The Stones were pretty good at giving credits and royalties where due, Zeppelin had to be 'persuaded' in quite a few instances. No question that the British players did a lot to educate White America about their blues heritage. The Beatles did a similar job with Motown and pretty much all of them revered rock and roll originators at a time when Americans had relegated them to the oldies circuit
