9 to 5 jobs

What do you think about 9 to 5 jobs? Do they have certain benefits or do they just keep you financially secure?

Personally, I don't think they're for me. I've been working in a cinema for 18 years and to be honest, I find it better than working 9 to 5. It may be a pain in the backside sometimes but I do like my job. Sure I get to watch any movie for free and get discount but it also gives me freedom.

If I worked in a 9 to 5 job, I think I would find it very stressful with me being autistic plus I don't think I would have much of a social life as I'd just be going to work and going home all the time. Yeah, the money would be good but I don't think it would be worth it for me.

I do 8-4

This works well for me because I get most weekends off. Previously I’ve done shift work and hated being alll over the place

Carlisle usually

I never thought I'd like the 9 to 5 gig when I was still in hospitality.

Turns out it's fucking great. Especially when I can flexitime my hours and get extra days off and short breaks for appointments. And every evening and weekend is my own

I please myself but as I have flexible hours but I generally do 0730 to 1600 or so. Some days are longer but then I have flexi time so, if I can find the time, I can take it back.

I like it - the flexibility helps as if I’m not feeling ur, I can take a longer lunch or end the day early if I’ve not got any meetings or anything urgent.

I do 8-4. And the occasional weekend. Whilst it is nice having the weekend off, I would like more free time. Especially as it's getting to winter and I don't see the sun...

I’d hate it not so much the 9-5 just the fixed hours fixed place having to answer to absolute fucking twats that think their daft extra quid an hour supervisor position gives them the right to treat people like shit ect hopefully never have to work another job as an employee rest of life

Having worked shifts for nearly 20 years as a nurse - I love 9-5! No more feeling like a zombie on night shifts, no more working every Christmas because I don’t have kids.

I’ve never had a social life, wasted all of my youth working and lost friends because of it.

Finally getting a healthy sleep pattern and can actually make plans for weekends. A much better work-life balance.

I do 9-5 and it's great to plan a routine around but the only problem is that your free time is everyone else's too. So gyms are always busy, as are pubs, and supermarkets at the weekends and some businesses that you need are closed as well so it can be quite inflexible.

i've gone from shift work to 9-5 and i'm actually finding it quite difficult. yes theres the obvious perks of not being as tired with any 6am starts or 10pm finishes, and having more family time is nice.

but

trying to sort appointments etc, is a real pain in the arse, traffic is appalling, everyones in so much more of a rush.

I did 20 years running bars and restaurants so all I ever knew was shift work and I loved it.

Now I do 9-5 flexi time and it’s been an amazing change. I don’t go out much anyway, but I love the routine and weekends for family and friends. For me it’s much healthier

This 100%. Never thought it would be for me. But now I love having evenings and weekends free. I would of course love a 11-3 job for the same money though ha ha.

I do 10-6 ish, but it can be (and is) flexible. Suits me, because Mr does 8.30-4.30 ish and so between us, one does school mornings (me) and the other does after school club pick up (him) and we manage to squish in a few things of an evening. It's a highly planned family regimen but it works

Im doing 9 to 5 ish hours at the moment and its a bit crap in the winter months isnt it? Not much motivation to get anything done in the evenings when its dark and 6pm feels like forever until it is bedtime. I think I would do better working 3 or 4 long days then getting 4 off.

After 15 years in retail working late nights, evenings, weekends and hardly having anytime off for Christmas, I now work Mon-Fri 9-5 and can’t believe how much better the work life balance is for me and I can finally enjoy that ‘Friday feeling’. I would never want to go back to working random hours across 7 days. My only preference would be to work four days 9-5 instead of five

I did 07.30 to 17.30 or later for as long as I can remember.

Broke me in the end, I work when I chose now which is preferable.

Work away from home Sunday to Thursday days nights sometimes double shifts, a 9-5 sounds great if it paid the same
