They seem to do it a lot around here. I guess they’re catching insects that get lifted upwards. Has anyone else seen this?

Yes, as you say they are insect gathering. I think Bill Oddie or Attenborough did a mention of it in one of their progs.

My ex hit a seagull right in the heart of Dublin last year (Grafton Street no less) it dropped a chip I think when rising right in front of us, then couldn't stop itself from dropping back down to retrieve it. It was just on my side and it lifted the car up and down after the heavy thud! Really freaky. pt
