Are we too soft on gangs and violent offenders… should violent offenders be systematically broken as human beings until their compliance is unquestioning and then rehabilitate them? If you can pair a crime to a punishment add it in the thread…i’ll start…

Parking in a disabled spot - car confiscated and crushed…. Unless you’re disabled obviously!!

I don't normally agree with the death penalty, but limited edition record touts should be put to death in my opinion.

People walking on the street infront of you, who stop dead in their tracks and turn to go the other way without looking should have their legs chopped off.

Or maybe like a fine or something

Queue jumpers. Install a pillory in every shop and supermarket, and when someone queue jumps, stick em in it and everyone else in the queue can pelt them with rotten fruit and veg.

Cyclists on the pavement should be burnt at the stake and the ones with scooters should be thrown into a pit of hungry wolves

On a serious note? Yes in a way. Because until the penalties for carrying knives and guns are harsher there'll be little deterrent. Most white collar crime such as fraud is dealt with via longer sentences.

On a lighter note? People with 13 year old children who park in parent/child spaces because they're closer to the front door should be lashed to the trolley bays and pelted with out of date fruit and veg.

You may be On to something - if you carry a weapon then be assured that the punishment will involve use if that weapon on you… my only worry is a spate of bank robberies by women armed with rampant rabbits and clit vibes!!!

I think people who find difficulty in adhering to the rules of society should receive counselling, in a bid to understand why they transgress, and help them to see why, as a society, we all benefit from compliance with rules and regulations.

When you use violence to solve problems you legitimise the use of violence.

You get out what you put in. There's plenty of studies out there. When people's needs are met and the feel secure, they become more pro-social and think longer-term.

People don't know where their next meal is coming from. They'll eventually eat each other.

Farnborough Hampshire

Sheriff Grady judd of polk county Florida put out a message on the news and internet that if you come to his county to rob, steal, break into houses and commit violent crime you will be shot and shot a lot.

One criminal was shot over 60 times and when asked why he said 'it would have been more but we ran out of bullets'

He upset a lot of people with that statement but since he did that crime in Florida is down by 55%.

Criminals know they risk death and even the public under stand your ground law can execute a criminal if they are caught in the act.

And because of this policy people Are moving to Florida from other states in record numbers because they are safe.

You should have the right to defend yourself from criminals.and if that means they Die. Tough.

The fear needs to go back on them

I still maintain that part of the problem is that we are a guilt based society rather than a shame based society.

Other parts of the world achieve generally lower crime rates because their culture enforces the shame of being a criminal whereas we view it as very transactional. The punishment is simply the price of the ticket for whatever benefit was gained from the crime.

To that end, I genuinely would support the bringing back of the stocks for minor offending.

Keeps short sentences out of prison, forces public shame on those who offend.

For serious crime, well we have lots of small barely hospitable islands. Transportation :D

So if we put criminals together with no food they will eventually eat each other… sounds like a deterrent to me.. and also keep costs down… excellent idea!!

They announced yesterday that some offenders who have not committed any violent or sexual crime and served 4 or more years may have their criminal records erased so that they can get jobs easier.

Surely parking in ANY parking spot is a civil matter, not a criminal one. You can't be arrested or "fined" for it, you can only receive a "penalty" from the administrator of the parking.

Crime & punishment is a complicated thing. There are many reasons for people to commit a crime, SOME people need help rather than punishment, obviously others are just unpleasant people who think that they can just do exactly what they choose regardless of the laws or then effects on others.

Every crime MUST be assessed on its merits and dealt with accordingly.

I think you’ll find that parking in ‘my spot’ carries more than a fine - and if you’re going to come on my threads with a common sense attitude and constructive sensible comments you’ll find there’s no place for you!!
