As it’s nearly November it’s a hot and topical question, right?

Me? First week of December normally, but if I could get away with doing a week or so earlier I would!

But this isn’t a thread about me. It’s a thread about YOU! When do you get all festive my lovelies?

You say the best things

I've had a tree up since July because I've been taking product photos... but my actual tree will go up, if it goes up, the first week of December. Probably the Tuesday because I think this year the Monday will be a write off.

It's not even officially Halloween yet!

(though that seems to last a whole month now too).

Why does everything have to last forever?

Some people have been taking about Christmas all October!

I was going to say it's like being 12 again, but to be frank when I was 12 we simply didn't so this.

What gives?

I've been talking Christmas since June. But that's because I have to start making Christmas decorations for market then.

When I was 12 I'm pretty sure we talked about Christmas a lot of the year, on and off... we were excited. Some people love it and it's gorgeous to see the enthusiasm!

It's only a fun post I know, but is the OP 12 though?

We are but 2 days from Nov with Halloween in between (November being a time people like me will just put up with it OP!) - talk about excitable!!

When I was 12, on October 30th I thought about Halloween (though it wasn't quite so huge back then), not Christmas!

But it's consumerism all year now, that's what I'm getting at I think.

A lot of that iconography is about the Winter solstice too. Seasonal greetings, like the gaudy tree. We are just not there yet though, let alone the Catholic date for the birth of Christ!

To some people it's like seeing their life fly past at hyperspeed.

When I was a kid it was about birthdays, Easter, half-terms, Tournaments, the Summer hols, Halloween, Bonfire Night.. we honestly didn't think about Christmas all-year round at all. It's something that 'hit' in November because it was the next thing in line.

Me neither when I'm single, and when I used to make one for a family environment I treated it as I did when I was a kid... not something to over-spoil kids with. It's a period of time, then life goes back to normal. Life went from normal to Christmas to normal. Now there is a 4-month extended commercial 'silly season' that can last from the end of September to February sometimes, if that's the end of the Boxing Day Sale.

Being arsed to get it down and boxed up again though?... I admit that can last a bit longer than I've planned it to though lol!

"Here's a suggestion.

Since is take them down day is 6th January, why not make 6th December put it up day?"

Traditionally the 12 days of Christmas is the period in Christian theology that marks the span between the birth of Christ and the coming of the Magi, the three wise men.

So technically Christmas eve to January 6th the decoration are up.

However in the orthodox religious. Their Christmas is on January 6th or 7th (with the Ukrainian orthodox church having an unofficial day of solidarity on the 25th). So god knows if they have a 12 days of Christmas. Maybe someone in the forum could tell us.

I’ve always taken them down on the 5th Jan, it depends if you count Christmas Day itself as Day 1, different factions use a different day as Twelfth Night, although Epiphany is on Jan 6th.

Anyway does that mean I can put mine up on December 5th?

Chams or Socials

Depends if we’re having a home-grown tree or the one in the loft. Real is as late as possible, fake will be 9/10 December if I can be bothered. T did buy me a new bauble yesterday though which is hanging from the light fitting in dining room so I don’t lose it in a “safe place”

Not all orthodox christians celebrate on 6th Jan. I believe in Greece, Cyprus and Romania they celebrate on 25th Dec but presents are given on New year's day. 6th is epiphany day. May other christian countries celebrate epiphany much more than we do and is a holiday for some including Austria, Italy, Greece and few more.

Used to always be 2 weeks before going up and 2 weeks after coming down. Now it's just whenever I feel like it though never in November.
