Hoping the ABs win as sa had 2 tough games and nz had a cruise. But also hoping the ref and tmo is fair to both sides this time and doesn't spoil the game. Calls crooked line outs and calls forward passes.... |

"Never a yellow he fell down the side of the ruck
The law now protects the lower limbs at the ruck. Absolutely yellow and probably red"
Only got away with it as the tmo reckons he landed on his leg by accident

Fucking ridiculous imo, it wasn't deliberate. We take people off for 10 mins now.
How to ruin a World Cup Final! I hope it doesn't, but honesly.
Would anyone have complained if this remained yellow? He'd be off for 10 mins ffs.

"2nd yellow will be a red all day long
Go Bokke!!
I think it will be a red,
I’m surprised it was a review and not straight red"
Doesn't matter, he was off the field any way.
Don't underestimate the AB being a man down |

I might be wrong but I don’t think there’s been a straight red in the whole tournament? Every red has been called from the bunker? |

I get why they do it from the bunker - just to be sure, but when it’s clear, why waste the time imo |

Was a straight red... Shoulder to head, clear line of sight, High degree of danger no mitigation... Spoils the final but at least consistent with the other reds in the tournament. |

Maybe I need to see it more but I don't really get it. I doesn't happen often maybe, but why would the captain of NZ want to do this? Kriel wasn't full height and Cane failed to get down and caught his head. Yes it was a dangerous situation, but now he's off. Surely 10 mins and the penalty is a better punishment?
If it was clearly intentional I'd understand, it's just the time people have to react - if your body doesn't do it for you it seems as if that's it, in this case anyway.

I moved countries just so I don’t have to watch it every Sat of my life! Watched last weekend and found it so frustrating, stop start stop start with the scrums. Definitely turned into a football fan instead. Doesn’t mean I don’t want the Bokke too win but so glad I don’t watch it more than every 4 years! |

I’m more of a football fan definitely, but I do watch the RWC every 4 years and some other internationals. Think the family would disown me if I didn’t |

Zzzz zzzz zzzz up there with the dullest sporting finals iv ever seen how do you score 70s 80s 90s 100s all way thru the groups then 23 between both finalists thats like badminton where everyone misses the shuttlecock with every swing |

Well done SA, they kept hold of their lead. The first knock-out onwards game that went slightly the wrong way in terms of gameplay imo, but you can't argue with the final scoreline.
It was always asking a lot to expect the game to be as good as the KO's tbh. pt |

They are a much better watch when they are behind this South Africa. Probably any South Africa!
It's hard to say they didn't deserve to win though. It's just a shame NZ didn't manage to get ahead in the game at any point.

In the groups they’re playing games against farmers, accountants and police officers. Some complete amateur sides in the group stage |

It's frightening how fit they are, it felt like a a very stretched out tournament though this time I thought. pt |

Yes it is and to keep that up over such a long time. It has been a long tournament but I think the breaks helped to produce good games.
It also meant most people could watch the games at the weekend. |

I was worried it would turn into a one sided South African domination, when NZ went down to 14.
Hats of for giving it a good go. If not for better kicking, they might have pulled it off. |

Great tournament, shite final.
Always gonna be cagey I suppose but it really was dull and again spoilt by inconsistent over officiating.
Really pleased the springboks triumphed, best team in the world for the last 5/6 years wins World Cup… shock.

Agree the officials have totally spoiled it. Some of it has become almost unrefereeable... When and how the tmo intervened very inconsistent and favoured tier 1 teams. ... Sa beat France thanks to some dodgy refereeing, England due to some dodgy refereeing and nz due to some dodgy refereeing... OK... Inconsistant application of the laws.
Forward pass is rarely applied as is non straight Lineouts and supporting your own body weight at a ruck... Tackling and playing while on the floor is also creeping in. Shame as it can be a magnificent sport.
The minnows played the most exciting rugby.
Still 6N next |

It’s the most positive I’ve felt about the national team since Clive stepped down.

Totally agree, the game is becoming a wash with problems. They seem so hot on this and that, yet are missing obvious infringements here and there. So quick to pull it back for one thing yet happy to let others slide. There is no consistency at all, and we though football had problems.
SA can tip one large drink towards a lot of luck in this world cup. |

My knowledge on rugby union is limited but I always enjoy watching the knockout games of a World Cup.Congratulations to South Africa they won their 3 knockout games by the smallest of margins which to me shows what a fine line there is between success and failure. |

I don't share your optimism sadly. Far from convinced by wiggy as attack coach. We often look clueless with ball in hand unless Smith is on the pitch and struggling to think of the last time we unlocked a defence with craft.
Apart from that.. Unless we find some decent props we can't do anything... Marler and Cole will go... Sinckler and rodd have gone backwards... Genge is a bit hot and cold... Stuart is doing well...George hasnt ripped up any trees for a while... We progressed from a really low base in the last few months but... As much as I love rugby watching us kick the ball away all the time is hard graft. |

Sorry, I was too busy getting the Braai ready before the game to comment.
Objectively Sam Can was unlucky and Siya Kolisi was lucky.
The game was so tight that if NZ had played with a full squad, I think it would have been enough to lift the trophy… they also left 2 & 3 points on the field which would have made the difference.
Having said that, we had a few tough games with both France and England being very competitive and you could see the exhaustion at the end of the game.
Very chuffed that we have 4 wins… maybe we can do something in the cricket too? |

I think RSA played well and NZ made a few mistakes and had a bit of bad luck. Pretty even game other than that.

Steady improvements in performance.
A squad that clearly wants to leave everything out on the field for the coaches and teammates.
A togetherness that hasn’t really been seen for years.
A selection policy that can see past the sarries squad of premadonnas.
Ben earl… Theo Dan to name just two that I think are absolutely world class prospects.
English national rugby looks extremely similar exciting for me.
The professional game and especially grass roots are a completely different story and those at the top of the controlling panel RFU should be publicly hung for what they’ve done in the last 10-20 years, they are a fucking disgrace.

I agree with a lot of the sentiment but... The prem isn't churning out quality players able to make the step up. Who knows if the next generation has what it takes to replace the spaces left by the retirees... Earl was a revelation but at openside. Mercer arundell murley can poortfliet Stuart may or not have what takes.. Martin and chessum looked impressive. Faz can't be the answer at 10...weve tried that for 6 years and it's madness to thibk he's suddenly going to spark the backs into life.
With the players off to France and the reduced salary cap I think it's going to a lot more pain before any gain.
Personally think the worst thing that could happen is think the England game us in clover... Its in a lot of trouble... But let's see if we can do anything in the 6n |

The lions tour to Australia (lions will win the series 3-0, hardest game my be the “combined oz/nz team… which is going to be the all black team in all but name)
And the world champion series where they basically screwed the tier 2 teams! The one thing I really liked about this World Cup was the rise of the tier 2 countries |

Agree about the tier 2 nations. They lit the place up except Romania... Tried to play some rugby too. You can see the existing tier 1 clinging onto their exclusive club but Georgia, Portugal, Namibia, Tonga, Samoa, even Uruguay all deserve a bit more exposure. Here's hoping. |
