I don’t often post here these days, but I am hoping that there’s a whole heap of good advice out there, just waiting to be given 
Have been an iPhone user now for whats ems like forever. Am looking at swapping my phone and have been wondering about getting away from Apple. Are there any good android phones out there that aren’t ridiculously overpriced and aren’t difficult for an idiot to get the hang of?

Why would you wanna do that ?
There will be lots of good phones like high end Galaxy etc , technical spec and technical features will be higher but UX will be a huge backward step. If you value tech spec and low cost over productivity then get the best Galaxy you can afford. |

You can get cheap (200£) chinese smartphones from Amazon.
They have mostly Sony or Samsung parts.
Using my Hafury for years and it's better than the crap Huawei before.

Fel has had both but prefers Android due to the jailbreak abilities. iPhones are nice but overpriced junk with minimal changes. Liked the simplicity of iOS.
Alice always has had an iPhone. Just prefers the look of it and simplicity.
I tend to stick to Chinese Androids simply because of their technical advancements. Brands you've probably never heard of such as Oppo, Xioami, Realme, OnePlus have such great tech.
Possibilities are endless with them. Flagship phones of those brands are on the same price as the latest iPhone of course but there are plenty of inexpensive entry Androids they offer.
I've personally got Oppo Find X5 Pro. Hands down best one I've had and I'm sure there are many that can best it. However when is too much, too much.
Watch some youtube reviews. Unbiased sources and great coverage of them on some channels.

See a lot of these brands in Nigeria they are like the Samsung Galaxy and Huwaeii Pro LIDL phones , very good specs for $100-$200, great for local SIM or burners. I would be worried about security using for banking because they are so easy to hack |

Ohh god here come the conspiracy theorists. You are showing your bums on a public site and are worried about data breaches and hacks.
Majority of phones use Chinese tech, Chinese micro-chips, Chinese factories to manufacture etc. Half the clothing in your wardrobe is manufactured in China.
Anyway, free entertainment from the tin foil hat community enjoyers. |

I buy refurbished iphones and have a sim only deal. So, when they die, just get another.
Work provides me with a Samsung Galaxy A40. It's absolute shite. |

Lol if it's not the Chinese, it's the Americans or GCHQ. Truthfully, I trust the Chinese more  they create wealth, the others seem to screw us over more.
Also Android 4tw - I can download a file, an actual file on Android. It can be saved to the phone normally, accessible directly as a mounted drive if I wanted to. I can print it directly to any printer.
I can even charge my phone with the same charger I use for my laptop. Not some weird lightening thing.
I can watch illegal streams, I can pay emulator games, there's loads I can do.
