You Tube can get stuffed!!
Jump to: Newest in thread
I have been successfully using an ad blocker which I installed on my laptop last year. It was great for watching YouTube until a few days ago when a warning appeared on my screen telling me to remove it and if I want to watch the channel for free I must subscribe to YouTube premium!
How dare they!!
If a corporate thinks they can twist my arm and dictate to me in this way they can f*ck off!!
It has been useful and informative to me up until now but it's not essential and I will stop watching it. I know this will also affect a lot of other people so any views, alternatives and solutions from the forums would be welcome |

I've had the same experience. Now I turn off ad blocker before firing up YT then turn it on again when done. Always mute ads same as on TV(remote is my friend). Not ideal but there it is. |

If you don't want ads, pay for the service.. After all can you imagine just the bandwidth costs to someone like youtube!
After all has to be paid somehow, nothing in this world is free. |

Following up to my previous post.

This will take you to Reddit where there is a full tutorial on how to get around ads. Don't bother paying, it isn't worth it. YouTube is a megacorp, don't feel bad for taking their money. |

Because your too tight to pay £5 a month or allow content providers like me to get paid by them? |

"YouTube content creators rely on add revenue to continue to make their content.
They don't lose revenue - ad blockers work at the user end; the ads are supressed rather than removed.
"
Not even remotely true, if the blocker blocks the add, then the post back and tracking for that ad never gets fired, meaning that it's not counted towards anything. So directly effects that's channels stats on watched ad hours... But whatever.

If you use it all the time you need to think about paying for it guys!
YouTube is easily the best content provider imo, no one else can match it. We can't all of us just get all it has to offer completely for free - some of us will have to pay or they'll change the fucking model!
Sure, YouTube was bought by Google (who is corp I hate for sure), but the concept of expecting this kind of thing completely-free (ie without even ads) really bothers me. I'd actually rather pay for Google (though I almost always use DDG DuckDuckGo these days) than have it Google steal my lifedata of every other website I go to. WMF ie Wikipedia makes me uncomfortable in a similar way too.
I know a couple of struggling content providers, none of them want to attack ad blocking - but they all need the revenue from the ads. Or how else do they do it? They have to push Patron etc, and not all of them want to ask for money all the time.
It takes them ages to present/edit ie make videos that hold up for viewing.
All that music etc on YT for 'free' too.
If you don't want to pay fine, but please at least don't treat the concept of paying as 'corporate' nonsense! Like Fab lol YouTube have a free option too, but paying for things.. sometimes it's just life.

I saw something on this recently where it talked about - most people are willing to put up with advertising to a point, but everyone has their breaking point at which they'll no longer engage with the service or find ways to engage using other means.
I do worry about the quality of the advertisements and whether they come with risks to my computer. The number is increasing and it's getting less worth it for me to engage, but I'm much more concerned about quality control, given security can be breached even without clicking on dodgy links. |

" The solution was easier than I thought. I didn't realise the ad blocker can be updated and I was using an older version of it that YouTube can track. Now I have updated it to the latest version everything is working fine again |
