Something I've been musing on recently. Sports supporters are quite often tribal in their support of their chosen team, sports/activity type folks often identify as cyclists/runner/climber/diver/sailor etc all have a tribe of sorts - so what about folks that may enjoy activities but you don't feel as though you belong and infact don't feel any requirement to 'belong' to a tribe.

Anyone else feel the need to belong somewhere or are we all tribeless destined to wander the sands of life adrift

I think nearly all of us feel the need to belong somewhere.

"I think nearly all of us feel the need to belong somewhere. "

And that's my question, I'm not sure I do - never seem to quite fit

Same but I also think lots of people feel like that, on the outside looking in.

We often remark that it's a good job we met because nobody else would have us .

I do think a lot of people are faking it to fit in.

I see tribes in football, yooof culture, and the gay scene. Not something I’ve seen elsewhere to anything like the same degree of exclusion (and isn’t exclusion an essential part of what a tribe is?)

Away for Christmas

The thing is more a case for some/lots/most of us tribes overlap. We aren't fully bonded to some/all tribes.

I'm a geeky nerd and a gamer, but not as much as some people are. Wouldn't say I'm in to fitness but do take part and I try to be as active as I can be, couldn't give excessive fitness advice though. I'm not in to sports at all. My music taste is eclectic as is my TV and movie choices.

I fit in to, but I don't belong only there. I don't feel I need to either, but it's nice to have those that can relate and feel you can participate.

A sence of belonging, if place, is crucial to wellbeing i’d say

I'd say that too but it doesn't need to be a physical place for everyone.

I have been a member of several ‘Tribes’ ex Forces, Running, Biker (Motorbikes), Transvestite, Rambler, Bolton Wanderers fan, Film nerd etc…

Although I’ve been a part of these groups and see those within as people who share a common interest, I don’t feel any belonging to any of them.

I’m a natural Loner, so amongst us loners I feel a kinship between us.

There is apparently an act involves guys wanking around a table.

Not sure the proper name for it.

Kind of like a supporting group for wankers.
