Winter working from home

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I work from home 4 days a week.

Starting to feel the boredom struggle about 8pm every night because I’ve been home all day! Work keeps me very busy but I can’t shake this 8pm sinking feeling.

What does everyone else do as we start getting into shorter daylight hours?

Start going out more. Whether it's for a long walk to restore my mood and enjoy nature or to stomp on leaves whilst listening to a Halloween playlist, it's good to get out when you have a break. Even if it's only a ten minutes walk.

As well as Meli's suggestion of a daily walk, what about joining a gym or going to a pub quiz etc ?

I go out in the day and then work a bit later so I can make the most of the best weather of the day and daylight!

That said I am quite happy with my own company and am issued to it!

Also book things in to make you go out, meet friends for dinner etc

This is killer! That’s why I go for a walk at lunchtime now to break it up or I’d be the same.

I got a SAD light. I have that on when working from home and it seems to help with early morning gloom.

I also give myself a couple of hours in the middle of the day to take the dogs out and have a work out.

I happened to be walking back from town last night. It was still mild and a really nice moonlit cloudscape....love it.

The best way to deal with that always as others said is to have a nice walk or a little break pottering in the garden. Whatever you do, don't come on fab or someone will drag you into an intense conversation of dinner v tea, roll v bap, big v small and the like and that's not good for you

I love working from home. Training keeps me sane - getting out for a run or to the gym.

Helps having the hound to walk as well.

Get a dog! It’s a massive commitment to spending more time outside, and forces you to take actual breaks. If you don’t, the dog will pee all over your house. Proper motivation.

I’ve worked from home for about 15 years and have got into a routine which really helps me keep focused and stay sane!

As others have said get out of the house for a walk at lunchtime or do something more strenuous, I’m also a dog owner so that gets me out of the house.

Personally I get to the gym around 7.30am, I’m back home by 9am and I’m in my home office just after. When you’re in your office you’re not at your desk for the duration and your WFH days should be the same.

It’s convenient for things like GP or dental appointments and home deliveries are a breeze!

As with most things it’s about getting a balance that works for you.

Early morning walk before breakfast and another before dinner. Winter can be cosy but I do not like January or February!

A SAD light helps. As does a good routine. And some hobbies. I have young kids so can’t head out after work for very long, so I get stuck into a tv series, read a lot, paint, knit, even build Lego. All very nerdy and sometimes I feel like a grandma but I keep reminding myself they will grow up soon.

A Fab midday meet sometimes helps as does chatting to friends from here late at night!

I also work from home 3-4 days a week and would echo all the advice about going out for a walk. Exercise is a key contributor to good mental health

"I do not like January or February!"

I think this is my problem. It’s going to be dark and shit for the next 5 months.

I need to start going for a walk at lunch and gym before work.

Beds (or anywhere beginning with B..!?)

I nip Next door to have a coffee or lunch break with my neighbour ...she's elderly and loves catching up with gossip and sharing it...

Kills 2 birds with one stone as she doesn't leave her house ever so it's a break for me and company for her

It'll be interesting to see if this year's festive must haves will be wfh related. Heated slippers, gloves and various blankets perhaps?

Or gift cards for utilities companies?

I keep work seperate from living room. I get a cosy feeling in winter around 8pm as dinner is finished and I am usually settled down watching a film.

Normally go for a run with either the club I run for, or mates from the club I run for in non club nights. Find a hobby would be my advice. Mr
