Roles are to scrapped in the NHS on the orders of Health Secretary. Some on these jobs attract salaries in excess of £90,000 which will be better put to use on the front line. A newly promoted consultant earns about that figure. What is more important here guy? It's all over the news |

Hmm, I think diversity and inclusion has an important role in workplace. The NHS is loosing enough workers to the private sector etc. Thinking of ways to keep highly qualified members of staff in their roles instead of employing bank staff or having to train new is probably a more efficient. |

I work in the NHS and previously held a role in our BME network.
The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda is so broad and covers basically everyone in some way shape or form.
We know from the Workforce Race Equality Standard and the Workforce Disability Equality Standard that people within those groups typically have a poorer working experience than those who aren’t. The annual staff survey also tells us about the poor experience of LGBTQ+ staff members and patients.
We know through the recent maternity CQC inspections that the standards of care for women, girls and babies is inadequate or requires improvement at over 60% of trusts. The experience is even worse for women of colour.
We know that access to healthcare services for those who work is typically poorer, as well as the impact of childcare on working families (especially single mothers)
This stuff is everyone’s issue because the challenges are faced by us and our loved ones.

I do think some of these roles are a waste of money and overpaid.
They seem to want to be put in ticks in boxes for BME and diversity, and the roles are often created for and to people purely based on them being BME, or diverse and ticking the box.
You see exactly the same in some city councils these people are on £200K, with a track record of complete disaster on every project they have ever been involved with , wasting millions of your money.
Diversity is so important in business. Businesses succeed when they have very diverse employees, it’s a well-known fact. And they’re good ways to go about this. This is probably the worst way to go about it.

There are two different things about diversity roles. One is to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and to remove any kind of barriers some people may face. The second is to meet arbitrary hiring goals to tick certain boxes.
While I support the former, I consider the latter to be stupid, ineffective, discriminatory and a huge waste of money. |

"consultants' basic NHS pay will be between £93,666 and £126,281"
Bear in mind this is after 5 years of medical school and around 10 years of further specialised training. I think a starting salary of £90k+ is deserved when you look at the hours, the responsibility and the debts that a doctor will take on to train fully. |

Very glad that Surgeons can be paid far more than this.
I have had life saving emergency surgery through the NHS.
The surgeon was highly paid and highly specialised and spent 9 essentials taking my entire intestines outside of my body, repairing and replacing.
Thank god the best surgeons can get paid far more than £50k on the NHS so we can ensure we do not lose such talent to the private sector.
Rocket science doesn’t save lives, surgeons and doctors do |

Great idea. Then large numbers would leave the country for jobs overseas, immigrant doctors wouldn’t come and many youngsters would choose other career routes. End result shortage of doctors. With this kind of brilliant joined up thinking you should be in the Cabinet. Shall we limited nurses to £25k as well? Maybe teachers to £25k as that is easy as well. |
