This is mainly for the males on here, has any of you guys recently been scammed with phone calls to a mobile number from a girl or should i say woman off here.

I got talking to this woman, we exchanged numbers and her profile dissapeared lol, and i cant for the life of me think what her user name was, but i have a vaugue recollection of it, anyway we talked on my mobile(works one), and she seemed pleasant enough, so we arranged a meet , needless to say she never turned up.

Anyway i'm at work during this week from our IT department who monitors the phones etc, imforming me that did i know anything of these calls to her number as the bill had come to £300 for them.

So please guys im posting this as a warning more than anything to be careful, because the number looks like a normal mobile number.

And if any of you want it or the persons user name in what i can recall of it along with her yahoo addy please please message me, id hate anyone else to get the suprise i got

I'm donning my Shercock hat as we speak as this doesn't seem possible from a normal non premium rate number. Shercock Holmes is on it like a car bonnet. I'll be back x

You beat me to it but another mysterious case closed by the Great Shercock Holmes.

As stated 070 numbers look at first glance like a mobile number but its a premium number priced at 50p per minute.

I knew everything in the world but this fact. Round of applause to you Mr for bringing it to everyone's attention. Bravo x

Except you dont pay the bills and your company can see who you have been dialling and you get caught out for being scammed £300 for dialling some dodgy number off a sex site. If they wanted to do a but more digging I'm sure you would have something to hide then.

So the moral if this story is...... Double check the phone number before you ring it! Or you may end up with a huge bill

What I don't understand is why the regulators allow these numbers to be used when they look like an ordinary mobile number.

"What I don't understand is why the regulators allow these numbers to be used when they look like an ordinary mobile number."

How else do they make their money ? It's the same reason why premium rate numbers aren't blocked by default on landlines. They *need* people to be fooled into using them to make money. If they didn't, they'd be barred by default, and the subscriber would have to request they be unblocked.

Instead (at least with Virgin) you have to PAY to have premium rate numbers barred.

I made that mistake myself when phoning up a number a lady gave me concerning a horse wanted to loan for my daughter, when I checked my phone bill it's was nearly £10, I rang my service provider who checked the number and informed me that the lady I had rang had bought her own number, so any phone calls to the number would be charged. It was like you had a normal phone number. Also I got stung phoning a leberra number, they are also chargeable

"I'm donning my Shercock hat as we speak as this doesn't seem possible from a normal non premium rate number. Shercock Holmes is on it like a car bonnet. I'll be back x

its a 070 mobile number "

I knew it - a cautionary tale!

I got a call from BT saying there was unusual usage on my phone line. My bill is not due until 23 February - logged on to find calls made since the bill was printed on 13 February amounted to £97!

Two calls alone came to £80!

It turns out my daughter's boyfriend was in hospital for a couple of days over Valentine's and the phones beside his bed was an 070 number.

She is not happy that I'm making her pay for the call - plus the VAT, but the calls on my phone don't exceed £3 a month -0 £97 in two days...I'm surprised BT notified me to be fair!

If they'd told her it was £100 a minute she'd not have heard or cared - mum is made of money and it's my given duty to pay for it!

She clocked up £600 in mobile charges on my phone in one month when she was 16 - she's 25 and hasn't changed!

That's shocking. I'm sure there is a bit of a stink going on at the moment about GP's surgeries using 0844 numbers (chargeable at quite a low rate) but premium rate to a hospital bed is absolutely shocking. Sadly I suspect many NHS trusts look at every possible way they can secure income.

£3.50 a day to watch TV in the Bolton Hospital.

Calls charged at normal rate for those in hospital.

Premium for those calling in though.

Someones makes a nice tidy sum out of it.
