"But a great sit com can be ruined by canned laughter."
Agree, I can't watch anything with canned laughter. Already mentioned but:
Parks and Recreation (obviously)
Brooklyn 99
for me. I also love other comedy shows but they aren't categorised as sitcoms. |

If canned laughter ruins a show for you, then you are too easily influenced by other people. |

How do other people come into the picture? This is not laughter I don't like, but a very specific kind. For example, I love British panel shows (WILTY, 8ooTCDC, etc.) and they have plenty of real people laughing in the audience. I just don't like it as part of scripted shows. |

Only Fools and Horses is still my all time favourite comedy programme.I also liked Steptoe & Son there is a classic episode call The Desperate Hours with Leonard Rossister which is considered as a act off between Leonard & Harry H Corbett which most called a draw as the timing was of a excellent standard by both actors. |

"New Frasier is awful…"
Havnt seen any of the new Frasier but I've heard the reviews aren't good..
I cant understand why they felt the need to bring it back when a lot of the main and funny characters from the original series aren't appearing.
The original series was just brilliant...
Should've just left us with great memories .... |

Without Niles, it’s just a disaster.
Although, I’m wondering is that what people thought when it was first launched and there was no Sam, Norm or Cliff? |

Depends on your age, and some of the ones from the late 60s and early 70s may be considered acceptable today (although frankly I don’t care).
In no particular order:
Please Sir (great theme tune too)
On the Busses
Young Ones
Cuckoo
Doctor in the House
Blackadder
Faulty Towers
Prospects (not quite a sitcom, but brilliant tragi comedy)
Only Fools and Horses
Till Death Us Do Part |

Transsexual Transylvania |
Married With Children
Black Books
Black Adder
What We Do In The Shadows
The IT Crowd
Ghosts (UK)
Yonderland
This Is Jinsy
WKRP in Cincinatti (A nostalgic pick that isn't actually very good, but I loved as an uncritical 11 year old)

I mentioned Royle Family, but I disagree. I think it's aged and not well. |

Oh sorry, I missed your mention. I still love it, but I guess that's the point with humour - it's pretty personal. |

Yeah, annoyingly, I still love it. The writing is great and the acting is flawless. But some of the jokes (e.g. homophobic mockery) feel a bit different to when I first watched it. |

"Gavin and Stacey. Wish they'd make more.
"
.
Gavin and Stacey and The Royle Family.. are they actually sitcoms?
If they are, I'd put them in!
I've always loved Last of the Summer Wine. And Open All Hours! Slow love.
My fave sitcom star as a kid was Leonard Rossiter (Rising Damp and Reginald Perrin). Were The Young Ones and Blackadder sitcoms? If they were they were huge.
I get the feeling that some really great British sitcoms can come and go now without notice these days, partly due to the BBC ballsing up the way they program comedy.
Not seen much American stuff since Arrested Development, but I definitely preferred Larry Sanders to Seinfeld (RIP Garry Shandling) back in the day. Cheers was always the best value as a kid, I think Friends picked up a lot of its writers. pt |

Steptoe and Son So sad they actually lost a number of them (simply thrown away after airing as they did in those days.) pt |
