Sitting in a lovely tea room called The Hive in Ripon Yorkshire. Two scones a tea and a cappuccino for less than 10 quid.
Got me wondering. How many of you Fabsters like a tea room or good cafe?
I don't mean the chains like Costa and all, but the independents..
If so, what's your fave place? Where is it? And what do you love about it? |

We spend a lot of time in independent coffee shops. Our favourite is an Italian place and second favourite is Turkish.
We have had the misfortune to drink a lot of very bad coffee in order to find the good ones. |

Its becoming increasingly difficult to find decent cake that isn't made from a catering mix. We went to a place a few miles from here a couple of weeks ago where I ate a slice of Victoria sponge that was fresh and light with buttercream and homemade raspberry jam. The jam was so delicious, I haven't tasted it's like for years. |

Yes. If I want something at that sort of premium, I want it to be at least the professional version of what I can make myself at home, not the professional version of the cake mix box I walk past in the supermarket. |

We love visiting little towns and villages.
Always look for a decent tea room.
A decent bakery.
And if there's one a decent tap room or micro pub.
Today for example, after The Hive.
I'm having a lovely pint of Porter in a micro pub called The Portly Pig

"A good independent tea room or coffee shop is a thing to treasure. The ones in small or remote communities - if they're good, they tend to blow me away."
Same..
Upwey Wishing Well Tea Rooms nr Weymouth was absolutely lovely. In the middle of nowhere, but stunning location and lovely nature trail garden. |

We tend to dislike the chains..
Poor coffee, sometimes way too hot, you can taste the burnt bean. |

"Couple of nice ones in Hull. One called 'Relax' on Newland avenue run by an Iranian guy. Tell him your name once and he knows it for life; sensational recall and customer service. "
Love those sorts of places |

Got me wondering. How many of you Fabsters like a tea room or good cafe?
I don't mean the chains like Costa and all, but the independents..
If so, what's your fave place? Where is it? And what do you love about it?"
Independent wherever possible.
I have a couple of favourites, one near me, one I head for when I'm visiting family... |

I was introduced to this civilised pursuit quite late, but I have embraced it. Luckily I have two really good independents plus a Greek option in walking distance.. |

2 best tea rooms in the world for us are Angelina’s in Paris and the Harrogate branch of Betty’s. |

But we do love the York branch...
Do you have to queue in Harrogate? |

We both love a good tea rooms. Infact our first meet (from Fab) was in a tea rooms because we both do. However the tea was terrible. Mrs Misfits choice (apparently its normally a good tea rooms, but never been in since). However despite poor tea and a rocky start it all came good in the end.
We still love to go for a nice pot of tea and some cake. Just the two of us or to meet people.

Do you have to queue in Harrogate?"
Sometimes there is a queue, depends when you go. The Harrogate one feels more traditional inside and I prefer it to the York one. The little Bettys in York was nice but now closed. The Ilkley one is good too. The fat rascals are always a temptation. |

I love an independent coffee shop (and blessed with plenty in my neck of the woods).
Not so many 'Tea rooms' down here, but they conjure up memories of holidays in the country, which is nice, but I don't like them if they're too twee... |

Not sad at all but some are better than others. I went to one the other day for first time. Lovely little cafe run by a family at the back. Everything fresh, homemade and delicious |

Lunch in the Savoy Grill is surprisingly cheaper than what you might think. |

"I’ve never been for afternoon tea!
There’s a few places near us that look nice. I should really go and check them out. "
Treat yourself but check them out first. Some can be a bit top heavy on the sweet treats. I'm more of a savoury fan.. |
