to be wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool (Part of an English lesson many years ago - Shakespeare I think?)I like it as it reminds me of school.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread upon my dreams.
W B Yeats

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is a society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar;
I love not Man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel,
What I can ne’er express, yet can not all conceal.
Byron. |

All that glisters is not gold
Often have you heard that told:
Many a man his life hath sold,
But my outside is to behold:
Gilded tombs do words enfold.
Had you been as wise as bold
Young in limbs, in judgement old,
Your answer has not been inscrolled.
Fare you well, your suit is cold.
The writing in the Golden Casket
Merchant of Venice, Act 2, Scene VII

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. |

I have a few
I am d*unk and you are ugly but unlike you I will be sober in the morning (just to be that clever even when pissed amazing)
Mine is not to reason why mine is but to do and die (courage in face of certain death)
I do not agree with what you say but will fight to the death your right to say it (my answer to any that offend me in forums) |

"Who cares who wins..
as long as the money goes in the bank..
Richard Burton reading Dylan Thomas is amazing.."
Dylan Thomas got the acclaim but RS Thomas was probably the better poet. |

Love the first one as it makes me chuckle, love the last one as it reflects what I believe in. Am thinking about the middle one |

Possibly, but Dylan was dazzling , mercurial, extravagant, wild, romantic, flawed, unreliable, but deeply deeply human.. and we loved that |

Never start a fight u have not already won
Never hit anyone without the soul intention of hurting them
Better to have a dirty gun and be able to use it than a clean one that is never used
Better to ask questions and shoot later than to shoot and ask the question from behind bars( gamekeeper said just after I missed a beater) |

This poem defines how I feel about the woman in my life.....
Motel, by Brenda Brooks
You make me think of
long days and nights driving
through a hot, lush state.
The watermelons voluptuous
bursting to split
offering their engorged pink
their sweet water
from the roadside.
You make me remember
the way moss clings so tight
to certain stones,
the lobes and blossoms and
purple hues of things,
the throb and syncopation
of the tropical insect chant.
You take me back
to apples at night
ripening in their bowls
besides a southern window,
the red-rimmed, rainy moon
and the drenched whisper
of your rude secrets.
The way your fingers
broke into me
like a ripe peach.
The way you spread your-
self and staggered small,
moist kisses over my thighs,
my stomach, my breasts,
the sliding flutter of you
on my tongue,
the taste of your spices
on my lips.
If I buried this
desire for you deep
in the ground beside a
dried up motel in a dusty
tumble place
suddenly it would rain
and stay wet
all the purple night.

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness;
but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing A flowery band to bind us to the earth, Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth Of noble natures, of the gloomy days, Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkened ways Made for our searching:
yes, in spite of all, Some shape of beauty moves away the pall From our dark spirits.

Bob Marley" I was and still ama great fan of Bob Marley - did not know he had said that but it kind of fits. |

I never used to like Bon Jovi but since I saw him live at the O2 I have started to like him. And I like that quote. |
