It finally happened. I had my first real big "oh shit I'm old" moment last night.
I was talking to somebody younger and I named characters from a well known cartoon from my childhood. The person had no idea of who these characters were!
How about you lot, when was your first or most recent reminder?
This applies to the younger generation too! As you guys will still have reached a milestone or two that puts your age in to perspective. |

My nephew was being a polite young man trying to make conversation with his elderely uncle and he asked me "so when you worked in Cambodia was that when Pol Pot was in charge?"
Excuse me, Pol Pot was in charge from 1976-79 - I was only a teenager then. |

Firstly, which cartoon? I bet I'm too old to recognise the names, not too young.
Secondly, they will get their turn. One day they will hear somebody say to them "What the hell is Tiktok?" |

I heard a conversation between two young people talking about how the pub was full of old people (people in their 30's)

See! It's these things. It's quite funny too when you think about it.
There is a generation that will have forgotten who Jade was/is.

It's generally at work I have felt old..
People not having heard of the following:
-Roxette
-Mary Poppins
-The song Basket Case, even though they claim to be Green Day fans.
-Good Morning Vietnam
-The Italian Job, old and new versions.
And at football, having what I think was an attempt at a compliment:
"I hope I can run around the same as you when I'm your age"; thanks I think. |

The £2 was launched in 1986 not 1998,the status of any coin commemorative or bullion is irrelevant if they have a face value. They have an actual face value which is honoured by the bank of issue,in this case BoE.They are not Double Sovereigns.Double Sovereigns are 15.8 grams of 22ct gold.I was talking about the 1996 issue.Try reading properly instead of trying to be clever. |

So many things but on here the messages saying that I look good... FOR MY AGE or that they would like to be with an older lady. Wait, are you referring to me?
Also when I realised that you can be a fully grown adult and been through uni and everything but have been born in the 2000s or be a fully grown adult and be half my age. That really hurt. |

An old farmer in the mid eighties asked how often I had to wind up a quartz Seiko I had.He refused to believe it had a battery,"they can't make batteries that small"
What would he have made of phones that work off a battery and fits in your pocket!
He just about got his head around it.He died in 2010.All his life there was no mains electric, gas or water at his farmhouse.Springwater from his well, cooking on a huge cast iron range, oil lamps for lighting. No tractor, everything by hand, bit of help from neighbouring farmers.Never ill a day in his life, just old age got him.
Wow. There may be something it that. Tech is getting out of hand. "
He had another farmhouse three fields away.No mains. No road to it.The last people to live there were an evacuee family from the London Blitz. They couldn't handle the quiet, solitude or lack of mains facilities,so after two months they went back to the bombing.I cleared it of furniture for him because it would bring the rates (pre council tax) down from £11 per year to £7. |

"I got my son in law a manual watch, and I had to show him how to wind it up.

"It finally happened.
" Finding all the presenters on radio2 really irritating and too much |

I got hit on by a beautiful young blonde lady a few weeks back in a pub one night in town, I asked how old she was and she said she was 19. I felt obliged to explain to her I was old enough to be her dad and walk away. Never felt so old in my life. |
