Keep busy, then you have less time to think about it. After six years without a cigarette I still sometimes get the craving.

Good luck

No one smokes anymore. I feel like a sinner. Need to find me someone with a smoking fetish I think

Good luck with the giving up, last time I used patches, they itch but lessen the cravings. If you can get through them, will power needed then giving up should be alot easier. My cravings never went away even after 3 years so needless to say I started again

i always find the hardest thing is knowing what to do with your hands

I think actually having a fag in your hand is very much a part of the habbit and as hard to kick as the actual not smoking

Yeah go with e cig. It gives you the nicotine without the dirt, the instant hit and occupies the smoking habit.

I use smoke relief... An e cig, 2 cartridges and a USB charger, and a pack of 5 cartridges for under a tenner and free shipping if you search fora code online.

Used it since October and not even been tempted. Except a cigar on NYE. Currently enjoying vanilla flavour.

It gives you something to do with your hands and the nicotine you crave without the smoke and other crap from a fag, you can get different strengths of so it's easier to wean yourself off (last time I gave up I went cold turkey managed two years without a fag but silly me d*unk one night decided to have one ) this way seems alittle better

"Oh I don't smoke never have... Gathering tips and tricks for a friend, she's working very hard to fight this habit... The stress at work doesn't help :-/ x"

Cigarettes do not relieve stress.

The belief that they do is what traps and enslaves the person.

But what they do allow is breathing space and time out from the situation which is why people believe they relieve it

So

time out - smoking break but not to smoke

Breathing space

Actually Breating properly while taking time out

Would all help

Yes it's a case of learning a new coping mechanism when things start to get on top, taking a time out instead of a fag break maybe going and making a cuppa, something that allows you to remove yourself from that stress for Afew mins.

Go for Positive Self Talk.

Start to understand that smoking is alien not natural.

People CAN survive without cigs.

No human being NEEDS a cigarette.

Constantly using phrases like -

'I have nothing to do with my hands.'

' I need one when im stressed.'

' I can't start the day/ sleep without one.'

turns these ideas into beliefs and simply deepens dependency.

Habit or addiction? Most smokers do so from habit.

To addicts i'd say read up the info on nicotine.

The nicotine is gone from your system far quicker than you think.

The benefits of stopping are quick to reverse ( it doesn't take years to get clean lungs )

The financial and social benefits are unbelievably good.

The crutches and dummies people use are temporary measures and will fail.

Using crutches is like a fat person eating Weight Watcher biscuits. It WON'T change habits or beliefs.

When stopping just STOP and only say good things. No negative talk.

You really don't need that cigarette.

When you've stopped for a few days you will realise it.

"We are using a vapourizer at the moment 2 weeks so far we've not had any trouble "

I've just read up on these and don't know any more than what i've read.

They claim to warm rather than burn tobacco and that :-

1. The smoker smokes clean air as the toxins are taken out and still gets the same 'high' from the nicotine.

2. People around don't have to suffer from toxic smoke ....

Great stuff ...... BUT

They also said .........So the smoker now does NOT have to quit.

So ..... how does a vaporizer help you to give up if you still get the same nicotine hit ?

the same way patches do you reduce the strength of the nicotine in the oils until its down to 0

oh dear she is not going to succeed with smoking if she is working under stress methinks. In any case her health will benefit more if she changes her work or working style to remove stress, then she might tackle the smoking?

We always have a choice, you don't have to live with stress but you do need to deal with it to remove it.

Challenge is good as when faced there is a result be it succeed or fail but stress is a constant oppression and should not be tolerated.

I gave it iup the easy way. I never started.

I have a friend who has been trying to give it up for years. Last year she got one of those Electric Cigs. She uses it as and when she feels the need.9 months down the line she has still not gone back to tobacco.

She has reduced the nicotine content to none but still uses the thing more like a pacifier lol

I'm on day 3 cold turkey.

I'm not really craving, its just I'm missing the habit of sitting on the doorstep with one, or having one just when I've eaten.

Good luck to everyone trying to quit x

20 minutes pulse rate drops

1 day carbon monoxide levels return to normal

Several days nicotine disappears from the blood

Several months shortness of breath decreases

1 year lung function improves

2-4 years the risk of a heart attack falls considerably

10 years the risk of lung cancer falls considerably

10-15 years the risk of a heart attack or stroke is the same as someone who never smoked

Gave up cold turkey after 35 years and 40 a day.(13/12/2011)

Terminal lung illness diagnosis, but just not soon enough for me.

Had tried E-cigs, Patches, Pills, none of them work without huge amount of will power.

Good luck to everyone trying, just dont give up giving up, if it doesnt work first time.
