"It came on this morning at some point as the house temp dropped below 18°
I don’t think you should let it drop much below as will take longer for house to warm up and keeps the pipework healthy."
It was only 1° last night in most places so certainly below 18° |

"OK, who has put there heating on yet?
Mine is going tonight... Effing freezing this morning
Nooooope! Get a jumper, grab a blanket, no heating for me."
Exactly.
I remember when one of my kids was complaining about the house being cold - wearing a t-shirt |

Best to get it running soon to check for leaks or other problems before plumbers get super busy with emergency call-outs.
We noticed a leak anfter a test run last week and have booked plumber to check whole system. |

"Nope, can’t afford to put it on.
Yes the problem and issues with prices not gone away, we just don't seem to talk about it anymore and certainly the goverment isn't "
True. How the fuck did that happen? |

Sinita did a song about you (just joking, my sense of humour I am afraid ). But true some people feel the cold more some less I suppose. |

I think people like me see little point in talking about it anymore. We get accused of being moany bastards rather than genuinely struggling. |

My heating is on, but the thermostat is only on 15 degrees. My home is very well insulated and I live in the south. It can be turned up to about 17 when it gets much colder and if it gets below freezing during the daytime it might possibly have to go up to 20.
It’s great being able to sleep without waking up sweaty during the night. |

I think people who think that are the same ones that pop up chastising others and don't have a clue about the struggles some people go through. They pick and choose examples about scroungers, the disabled etc all based on their artogance and lack of empathy for the less fortunate. However it is Sunday so will leave it to that as they will pop up any minute again to defend their less than caring behaviour |

I remember the days before central heating - only the kitchen and lounge could be heated. Just put multiple layers on. Get a throw for the lounge and snuggle into it when watching TV. |

You were lucky. In my day we had to throw another kid on the fire if we wanted to heat the lounge |

"Just put it on to warm the house then turn it off "
There are two schools of thought though. One tells you is more efficient to keep it at constant temperature all the time, the other to put it on a bit in the morning and a bit in the eve or just when the house needs to warm up a bit. Nobody ever gives you the real facts and data as to which really will cost you less but still giving you sufficient comfort and warmth |

My dad put a gas fire at the bottom of the stairs when we were teenagers. Then he put some in bedrooms.

Well I get free wood so be rude not to.
Don't be sorry. At least you will not spill your tea from shivering "
Nope.... and usually have a kettle sat on top of the fire ready for the next cuppa. |

Yep running mine for 30-40 minutes this morning. Applying an alcohol based gel over about 1/4 of my skin and waiting for it to evaporate/dry without running the heating was just a horrendous prospect. |

I was thinking it cannot be THAT cold as my thermostat wasn't off. WRONG! The batteries had expired. When I went to work this morning, my car was frozen. It was indeed THAT cold.
I replaced the batteries today and put the heating on |

I kept my dd same over the summer months to build a bit of contingency over the wi ter months as can't stand the cold and last year my bills were three times as much as were before. Even with the goverment support that was not good and so far this year they have not said anything so I assume tjere will be no support even though nothing really changed as prices have stayed the same. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
Still got the air con on in the bedroom... although I did switch the heated airer on to dry my washing yesterday as I needed jeans.
Apparently the bedroom is too cold for normal humans though |

Heating has been on today and yesterday no leaks and works very well.
Turned it off this evening and stoked the wood burners up and lit the one in the lounge. Depressingly feels like only five minutes ago since I had the burners lit. |
