Not sure if this is cheating but...
Little girl you are cursed by my ancestry, there is nothing but darkness and agony. I can not only see but you stopped me from blinking.
Would be curious if anyone knows this song. |

Penny's place a crummy room
Her dansette crackles to Jimi's tune
I don't care I taste Ambre Solaire
Her neck, her thighs, her lips, her hair
Ring-a-ding-ding-ding, I'm going down, I'm coming round |

In fear every day, every evening
He calls her aloud from above
Carefully watched for a reason
Painstaking devotion and love
Surrender to self-preservation
From others who care for themselves
A blindness that touches perfection
But hurts just like anything else
Isolation, isolation, isolation
Mother, I tried, please believe me
I'm doing the best that I can
I'm ashamed of the things I've been put through
I'm ashamed of the person I am
Isolation, isolation, isolation
But if you could just see the beauty
These things I could never describe
These pleasure's a wayward distraction
This is my one lucky prize

I don't feel too steady on my feet
I feel hollow, I feel weak
Passion fruit and holy bread
Fill my guts and ease my head
Through the early morning sun
I can see her, here she comes
She bangs the drums
Have you seen her? Have you heard?
The way she plays, there are no words
To describe the way I feel
How could it ever come to pass?
She'll be the first, she'll be the last
To describe the way I feel
Holds deep meaning for me personally |

Soak me to my skin
Will you drown me in your sea submission
Ends and I begin
Choke me smoke the air
In this citrus sucking sunshine I don't care
You're not all there
Every backbone and heart you break
Will still come back for more
Submission ends it all |

"If a double-decker bus crashes into us / To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die / And if a 10-ton truck kills the both of us / To die by your side, the pleasure, the privilege is mine.
"
There are just too many great Morrissey written lyrics for me to choose the best. This one is up there x |

I agree another one is “I think about life and I think about death and neither appeals to me” |

Lots of my favourite bands and songs already posted so I'll go with...
And I can't move my arm
For the fear that you will wake
And I'm five years ago
And three thousand miles away

And
*
It's a monsoon
And the rain lifts lids off cars
Spinning buses like toys, stripping them to chrome

Until Sally I was never happy
Or
You once had a home, a job
A family and pride
But we all have a price we'll pay
When things go wrong inside
Don't wear diamonds
And now you don't wear gold
And in the bruises on your face
There's stories to be told |

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand?
Oh, my little girl |

"Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they're touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me"
You know everyone sang it don’t you |

Too many to choose may take more than one post..
When I'm standing in the fire
I will look him in the eye
And I will let the devil know
That I was brave enough to die
And there's no Hell that he can show me
That's deeper than my pride
'Cause I will never be forgotten
Forever, I'll fight

They were a Manchester band originally but Tim Booth writes the lyrics and he’s a Bradford boy….and a Leeds United supporter. |

definitely
lyrics.com/lyric/409591/John+Cooper+Clarke/Twat
Like a nightclub in the morning, you're the bitter end
Like a recently disinfected shithouse, you're clean round the bend
You give me the horrors
Too bad to be true
All of my tomorrows
Are lousy 'cause of you
You put the Shat in Shatter
Put the Pain in Spain
Your germs are splattered about
Your face is just a stain

"Evening everyone
Why on earth do you think the best lyric written by someone from Manchester ( I take it that is what this is about? ) is an important or, ok, even a trivial question to ask? "
It's better than the nth iteration of "replying is just good manners"

"Evening everyone
Why on earth do you think the best lyric written by someone from Manchester ( I take it that is what this is about? ) is an important or, ok, even a trivial question to ask? Hello my friend. Not saying the best lyric is written by a Manc just specifically asking from Manchester xx "
Yes, I realised that. I was perhaps being flippant and wondering why make the range of possible responses so narrow by placing so many specifics into the question… kind of like: who is the best French artist who painted in oils in the 19th century and used a pallet of yellow ochre, raw sienna and Prussian blue and had a brother who lived in Paris? I mean … erm
But that was me probably being rude and I must apologise…
Though I am going to have to think long and hard on this because I don’t know where most singers come from! |

we walked out – tentacle in hand
you could sense that the earthlings would not understand
they’d go.. nudge nudge …when we got off the bus
saying it’s extra-terrestial – not like us
and it’s bad enough with another race
but fuck me… a monster …from outer space
