Well it's what they've been doing, the question for me is whether they've got he ability to carry it on!
It's great to see a team where the expectations weren't high become something you can be confident about challenging in each game they play (it's where they should be and I remember the days - era really - where we really struggled to do that against every team).
Argentina could play a blinder though, so this could be a close one.

I really tried to like this game last year. Had a nice woman who loved it and persuaded me to watch it a couple of games but eventually I had to tell the truth. She didn't realise that the only thing I liked was the manly muscle and the massive chests. We broke up. |

Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
Real period of mistakes from both sides. Another fluffed lineout for Wales, Biggar misses a pen... as long as Argentina are too ruffled to exploit. I'll take all this half time if we can hold this play by our line. pt |

Our discipline was poor also….we gave them a number of penalties which were converted and kicked long far too many times which left space in the defensive set up!!
Whilst we scored 2 good tries we never capitalised and our good moments were over shadowed by poor discipline and handling errors!!
We were never expected to get out of the groups but that quarter final Was winnable and I just think we gifted Argentina the win more than Argentina deserved it!!
Let’s take heart though from a decent World Cup and look forward to the 6 Nations….I think we will be a much better team off the back of this tournament!! |

I hope Ireland win, but NZ are tough to beat.
For me, France have been the best team so far, but when it's a knockout game it could go either way.
England "should" win too, certainly if Fiji play like they did last week.

We did gift it them on the whole I think. They were lacklustre themselves at times, and personally I think Argentina were lucky (ie in that way) more that totally deserving of it. But you have to play it to win it I accept that too, and they are a really big international side now.
We will improve on this for sure.

I had to watch Wales play Ireland in the Republic last year, and was really surprised how 'snotty' they were over their rugby union team! Okay this generation might be the best they've ever had, but they just arrogantly expected to win everything- including their game against France!
They were so dismissive of Wales I found it really disrespectful.
Ireland typically did well at the Arms Park and often The Millennium/Principality too (Ireland in Cardiff was a kind-of bogey fixture for us, like for the French when we used to go to Paris) but we always showed them respect. We never said we expect to blow them away or took the piss, even when we were the better side, which was quite often.
I want to see them get pulled back a peg tonight I can't deny.

I've been reading about unfairness re Wales, but we are at the Quarter finals aren't we? If that couldn't potentially happen for nos. 1 vs 2 teams the tourno would be pretty much rigged surely.
NZ had a tough group to top, and they failed to do that.. so they came second in it. Of course everyone needs to win their 'first vs second' QF, and any team who wins their QF just needs 2 more wins to take the cup. I don't really get what's unfair.
Ireland were just unlucky that NZ started badly then improved to their best. You shouldn't really expect an easy QF though. One outstanding team is left in the competition too, and they were in NZ's group. So Ireland were always going to have a really-hard QF if they won their group anyway. Is that actually the problem here? There's only one game between QF and SF I would say, it's the breaks surely.

Well as a league man I posted on a earlier post criticising the France nz game for too much kicking (and got uncalled for abuse for my opinion) just watched nz Ireland and what a superb game, magnificent.

I agree that England will probably beat Fiji, but I think that it's Australia who "deprived" themselves of a quarterfinal place. I'm not sure anyone was desperate for a England/Australia final... neither team are at their best at the moment.
For me, the final that everyone was expecting was France/Ireland, but I think that both New Zealand and South Africa have both been impressive. |

"So tough for Ireland... but not good to see Sexton shouting abuse at one of the All Black's after full time
I really thought that Ireland would pull it out of the bag at the end, but NZ were just too strong... and the discipline from both sides was incredible at the end.
Great game.

Well he's got form hasn't he
.. Abusing the ref when not even playing. Rugby doesn't need his antics.
Yes, unfortunately his playing ability isn't matched by his attitude."
Imagine the dogs abuse if it were faz.? World rugby would be involved. With an "independent commitee". Still it was a good game and another belter today. |

That’s ambitiously predicting that there will be more to come for England.
I like the positivity. |

I'm conflicted. I mean as an England fan I'd like us to progress but as a rugby fan, it will be brilliant for fiji to progress as they play by far the more watchable rugby. With farell and the 2 slow wingers he's selected the balls going to be in the air a lot which doesn't make for a great watch. Also hope France beat the bokke but head says different. |

England are worth their lead so far….Fiji don’t seem to know what they’re doing!!
Smart head from Farrell and England are just picking them off!!
But for the fucking life of me….can someone tell Ben Earls the game isn’t won from a turn-over….he celebrates as if he’s won the tournament…..highly fucking annoying
Great player though!! |

Good result, but doesn’t fill one with confidence about next week.
SA will bully and bash their way to a win. France will run rings around that defence, and dish out a serious points filled hiding. |

"So, I'm going to call it now.
England to beat Fiji because a) Fiji deprived the world of the England - Australia final everyone wanted to see and b) because the gods of rugby really hate the rest of the British isles...
Then will play the soon to be World Champions in the Semifinal.

Because they weren't when the draw was done. A failure of the process, you can't blame an individual team.

The simple way of making sure someone like that wouldn’t never had happened in the first place is not to have had “crossover” quarterfinals
In a 4 group tournament…. They have all been getting 6 days rest as a minimum anyway |

I don't think the way it's gone has been too bad. No reason to assume the games won't carry on being good ones too...
I did find the tournament slow at first to get into, miss a good game early on and it seemed like a bit of a wait for another (for me anyway). But I get why the whole thing lasts so long of course. pt |

Nobody with any real perspective didn't expect England to Win their group, they have also been improving from week to week. Obviously from what we've seen so far, you wouldn't put money on them against South Africa... but in a knockout tournament if England have a good day and SA a bad one and the result could go our way...
The France/SA match was awesome... both teams deserved to win, and SA must now be favourites to take the Cup.

Me too. I think Fabio might be feeling a bit cheesed off lol. It's actually been a great world cup though, and NZ, SA (who are great value) plus ENG and ARG (what should have been Wales imo - we fluffed it) are in the Semis (and Argentina aren't bad at all). That wouldn't be a disaster whatever the groups were originally, especially as Wales would have played well every game if we did get there. What's wrong with that? England of course usually do pretty well in these things. And AUS could have been in the mix too! (and in ENG's place).
