I remember going to the rent office. By the time I had a mortgage, it was DD only. |

Way before direct debits. I'd go weekly to buy telephone, electricity, gas stamps, oh yeah and TV licence. Great way to budget."
I've still got a car tax card with 15£ on it somewhere. Not much use now lol |

I can remember getting paid incash for a little hatch in the canteen at work on Thursday lunchtime. You queued up & got a little envelope with the notes and coins.
Then you went outside and a steady stream of wife’s turned up to collect it & the men were hiding money in their socks.
I was just 16 This has serious impact on my views of marriage
