Is a Jaffa cake still a Jaffa cake if it is strawberry, cherry or lemon flavour?

By the way I have bought all three flavours to try.

I imagine Jaffa Cake is a brand as opposed to a flavour and therefore belong in the bin regardless of what's in it

"Jaffa is in Israel, isn’t it? Do the cakes originate there?"

Jaffa Cakes are a cake introduced by McVitie and Price in the UK in 1927 and named after Jaffa oranges.

I think they shouldn't be called Jaffa Cakes unless they contain orange.

The Jaffa orange is grown in Jaffa, Israel, hence its name.

Surely Jaffa is like a branding thing? Like Jaffa = orange doesn’t it? Or is there some leeway because lemon is in the citrus family, like Fanta orange / Fanta lemon?

Not yet, but most likely will be tomorrow. I save them to try with a friend that enjoys Jaffa cakes. I don't think he is impressed with the idea of trying them.

Maybe that’s the thing. Don’t get hung up on the orange. If they taste good why not include them in the Jaffa cake family? I mean there’s already enough argument over Jaffa cakes being cakes or biscuits, why add more? If they taste good does it matter?

Only original Jaffa Cakes have earned the right to be a Jaffa Cake. All others are imposters, double agents and liars and need to be dealt with accordingly. (In other words they are all disgusting apart from the orange).

But Jaffa comes from Jaffa oranges, so other flavours converts them into a different food type, such as offal
