My fav pub used to be "The Crooked House" until it was set on fire and bulldozed for insurance.
But my second fav pub is "The Old Waggon And Horses in Bewdley. A pub owned by a single woman and staffed by women. A great local, great beer and brilliant staff. Not somewhere to go if you want to be "Trendy and in with the crowd" But great if you want good beer, good conversation and a good laugh and good service. |

It used to be a little pub in the middle of nowhere in the Lakes, warm, traditional, welcoming, hearty meals.
But a few years ago it got sold to some hipsters from London who turned it into a “Gastropub” with an Islington menu and totally ruined the ambience.
The top-knotted (I’m guessing this bit!) bohemian twats! |

London has some great pubs for music. Love the Birds nest and New Cross Inn in South London. Helgis and Blondies in Hackney. The Devonshire arms and the Dublin Castle in Camden.
The Foxglove in Islington is a great kink friendly pub and has munches on all the time. it's the beard munch tonight for those with and those who admire the hairy faced man. Sadly I'm not going as I'm trying to stay sober for October but will be there on Thursday for the Femdom munch. |

In Croydon we have a few.
The Green Dragon and The oval for great beer, we're at The Oval tonight to see a band.
There's The Ship Inn for decent rock nights. Then there's The Craft Beer Yavern in South Norwood. A great Micro Pub.
Lastly. We have The Cronx Tap. Great Beer and we will be hosting the Croydon Munch there from Wednesday 1st November. |

The Stonehouse brewery in Oswestry, set the pub around the distillery and brew their own ales, gins and vodka. It's out of town and closes early so it's less likely to have a rowdy crowd. They also offer food and everything is freshly cooked using locally sourced suppliers. I love it |

Always used to be Gotham Town in Newcastle. But sadly ruined as all great pubs are.
Only place you could get heavy metal music, 3 quid trebels and no chavs/dickhead to spoil it. |

Been there a number of times when I worked in Oswestry can confirm it’s excellent ! |

I can't too many great pubs, some I've forgotten. But a few notable mentions:
The Alexandra Hotel, Derby. Always a little stop off passing through Derby or Pre Attic drinks. Great selection of ale, chilled atmosphere and full railway memorabilia and rabits once. Mrs enjoys chatting to the customers in there. I think it must be full of special guys like me she enjoys (something to do with the railway stuff I expect). Also an awesome selection of Scotch Eggs until the guy who made them went incommunicado during the pandemic (assumed dead).
Laurieston Bar, Glasgow. Love the atmosphere and decore of the place. The wood panels walls and red leather bar stalls. Like going back in time. Very welcoming guys behind the bar and a good Ale.
The Swan, Darlaston. A great little daytime pub. Very local but we've always been made to feel very welcome and got on well with the locals. Always a good solid selection of ales, cracking prices and nice chunky batches (or cobs as Mrs will insist). Often pop in for a couple when visiting Chameleons.
Also can I deviate a bit an mention a couple of pub cluster areas? Well I am anyways. Kelham Island, Sheffield is worth a go for a selection on decent pubs and ale. Also Craven Street Coventry. Lovely pub crawl and atmosphere although so not so great for good ales in some of the pub. Some of the pubs are just like someones normal house converted into a pub. A great little pub crawl (especially starting from the Broomfield Tavern a few streets away opposite the Rugby club) and a lot fun. |

I dunno, don't drink anymore....
However, from memory I remember the Ye Olde Salutation Inn in Notts. being good. Used to be a real rockers pub. Has a good range of beers for the real ale crowd.
Trip to Jerusalem - a bikers pub. Supposed to be haunted... I've never experienced any spooky activity - the only spirits I conjured up were the ones bought at the bar! Hello? is Dave there? No, he's dead sausage!!!
The Malt Cross - not too far from the Bell Inn round the corner & near cash machines... Has a nice comfy leather sofa to read papers & drink. Foods simple but ok. Has a good upstairs to hide away & be anti-social or hide from people...
The Thurland Hall -Good pub with papers to read!
One caveat though, if it's moved - not my fault. I did it pre Covid so, quite some time. Look on t internet before you go sas not to disappoint.

It has it all, I don't drink so I have never tried any of their ale or spirits. I did buy a bottle of Henstone bourbon for my son to share with his mates in London |

Most of the pubs I used to drink in in my youth are sadly no more, and were demolished in the name of progress, such as Tommy Ducks in Manchester, and the Downs and the Grapes in Cheshire. |

Having checked out your profile it would be which ever one you were in
Ooooft, charmer! That totally worked! "

The Goat Major, Cardiff City Centre
Not been for ages so might not be there anymore.
It was large but cosy. Old building with some history. Military theme (as the name suggests).
Had an upstairs trek to find the loos. |

Our local used to be great, amazing views nice atmosphere, busy but always able to get a seat.
Crowd was just a good mix of the right people.
Went downhill and closed for a little bit new landlady took over and it turned into a free for all,I think she was drinking more than she was earning kids running amok food was shocking and all the local sniff heads started coming in.
It's now run by different people but the staff are miserable as fuck lazy and the people who run it seem to treat customers as an inconvenience.
Went round recently and stood at the bar for ten minutes waiting to get served not a sole behind the bar.
One of the regulars had to go into the back to find her she was upstairs on the phone to her mate.
Her words " oh I forgot that I was the only one here today"
It's the way a pub is run and the patron's that make a pub worthy of returning. |

Think it’s the Blue Bell now. To be fair, that was the original now.
My favourite is The Dyffryn Arms, aka “Bessie’s”. Found in The Gwaun Valley in deepest West Wales, it’s barely changed in decades. Bessie served the beers well into her 80s, 90s even, through a hatch.
They even use a different calendar in the Gwaun Valley. In an area where communities are struggling and bwing hollowed up, long may that gloriously quirky tradition continue. |
