Condominiums are usually owned outright, whereas apartments are typically rented. (US only). But we don't use the term Condo in the UK.
Duplex are maisonettes: two apartments with two floors joined together with a common stairwell. |

I guessed a duplex might be a maisonette but I had no idea a condominium was usually owned outright.
I once owned a lovely maisonette in Brighton, all high ceilings and tiled fireplaces |
