It is truancy it's getting out of hand these new terminologies emotional school based avoidance
So what are they saying then, children can skip school now when parents have to pay their school fees and uniform?
Is it no longer against the law if children are not given an education? |

Everything seems to be based off of emotions. I would have had a field day if I was in this young generation. Didnt do homework, mental health, didn't go to school, mental health.

"Apparently bunking off school is now called 'emotionally based school avoidance' - discuss."
It's really out of hand now. If they're not in school at that age they are very likely up to no good. Whoever bonks school to go do anything responsible. Maybe a few but unlikely. |

I get there are circumstances where kids skip school due to being bullied or having problems at home etc but most of the time it’s because they can’t be arsed. |

All truancy or just the students who genuinely suffer with anxiety around school?
One of my brothers did. He's profoundly dyslexic and in the sixties school was a nightmare for people like him. Our parents made him go while supporting him as much as possible but it wasn't pleasant. Our son also went through a period of refusing to go, the daily experience of having two members of staff unwrapping his arms and legs from me was unsettling for us all. I went to see the headteacher on the morning he just refused to get out of the car and she was excellent. He didn't miss any school.
All that rambling is basically me saying some students do avoid school for emotional issues. |

It is. In fact it's a human right under the HRA and the UNCRC.
School is not compulsory though. And also schools have a duty of care in 'loco parentis' to provide an environment, where a child does not suffer abuse, in the same way a parent or carer does. There is also a responsibility on the state to ensure adequate education provision that meets the diverse needs of students.
Unless we believe that all schools achieve this to perfection. There are no instances of discrimination or bullying in schools and that these occurrences have no emotional impact on children?
e.g. the lads 2 years older than my daughter who threatened to slit her throat, because she was a 'muslim terrorist'. Took her a while before she could go back to school again, she had to be home-schooled for months. They were suspended for 3 days. |
