I described myself as polyamorous and bi sexual to two work colleagues today.
First time I have said out loud that I am Poly. It felt right.
Tell me about how you last described yourself to someone else? Are you happy with the description you gave? |

I told someone I was demi-sexual and I needed to get to know her first.
She said that's great, I'd like that.
Then I forgot because she's on some app I barely use. Probably should have mentioned I have ADHD. |

Well done you! So glad you felt comfortable enough to say that to your peers like the strong MFer you are
I can't remember the last time I described myself but I hate it. Requires too much thought and introspection that makes me overthink. |

"Good on you.
Foolish, broken and fat was the last description I gave of myself. Also pretty accurate.
"
Based on your profile pics
I would say discription of yourself doesn't match.
Could this mean a case of self deprecation
A need to go to specsavers

I'm not sure if it's classed as describing myself but telling my parents I was in an open poly relationship for the first time seemed a big step
Glad you felt right in yourself OP

This is lovely! Nothing quite as empowering as knowing who you are and feeling comfortable with that. |

I can’t even remember the last time I felt it was necessary to describe myself to someone in real life. Usually the works I make speak for themselves - and so long as turn up on time and hit a deadline, and I don’t behave like a complete arsehole, nobody really cares. |

Didn't your first five words just describe you? "

How is that working out with female colleagues? Obviously males just got more excited about you. |

I should add - it was more the fact I was in a relationship at all. They couldn't care less about the poly part as long as I'm happy and my Dad doesn't have to move any furniture |

I'm a playful, easy going, chilled out bisexual switch very much into restraints and impact play, tease and denial, love great kissers and enjoy good connections.
It didn't get me anywhere though.

For the most it is an accurate reflection of me, sometimes I'm a cunt and sometimes I'm not.
Just a bit??"

"Why do people need to describe their sexuality to anyone?
I suppose if someone assumes you're straight there are circumstances in which you might need to explain that you aren't. "
Doesnt come up at my place of work but perhaps that's unusual. |

It did come up at mine once whey someone was transitioning |

This always comes up and I find it curious. Why shouldn't you describe your sexual orientation or whether you're mono/poly/whatever you like to others? If that's important to you, to your identity? It's not like you're telling people about specific sexual acts you enjoy, unsolicited. I understand that some people like to keep it private. But I also understand the importance of being able to be your authentic self and feel accepted for it, rather than feeling you need to hide it away.

I said I was melodramatic, I jump in feet first, I'm impatient, I can't do dishonesty and tend to overshare to try and show the truth. |

It's just more interesting anyway isn't it? To actually get to know someone rather than spending 10 years swapping tik toks videos? And talking about the people who got a bit too pissed at the Christmas do. Ooh and she's married. Yes Margaret you've said, every day for the last nine months. |

I'm very interested in knowing this too. Were they just work colleagues or friends too?
I'd hope everyone accepts bisexual, and that's something you'd be alright saying to a stranger/acquaintance. Do you feel like polyamory is a part of your identity like your sexuality and not just a lifestyle? |

"Why do people need to describe their sexuality to anyone?
To get a reaction?
Same reason as some people post on here, I guess. "
Posting something in the comedy section of FAB is a little different to confiding your nonconformist sexual lifestyle, to
friends, family, and work colleagues.
I think it takes a lot of courage. |

"Why do people need to describe their sexuality to anyone?
To help them understand there’s not in fact something wrong with them, they are just different.
"
Likely depends on the people and the place of work.
Otherwise it's much like vegans. |

Well I posted then fucked off.
Thank you for some kind words, some interesting self descriptions and some heart warming stories.
In answer to a couple of questions I am in London for work for the week and went out with a couple of colleagues for dinner. The subject of dating came up and whilst I don't go out of my way to update people on my personal life I also am happy and comfortable with myself to be fairly honest.
They didn't say much but whilst there may have been a little surprise there was no shock and we carried on with the conversation. It was the normality of it that I loved. Both me saying it and their relaxed reaction to it that made it noteworthy to me. |
