Another here.
Currently off work (without pay) have a herniated disc which is pressing on the nerve root.
In pain 24/7 unable to pretty much anything.
Keeping as active as possible trying to get in at least 7k step's a day but it's difficult as even a short walk leaves me out of action for a good hour after.
The relentless pain for the last 8 months is getting a bit much now.
Been off work for two weeks due to go back end of month but can't see how I can |

No referral for a surgical opinion? No attempt at a spinal epidural / nerve root block? |

Had to pay for a private MRI to get the diagnosis or I'd have been waiting another year.
Have physio later on this month hopefully get the ball rolling.
GP has been useless just throwing drug's at the problem. |

Took me 9 years to finally get someone to listen and give me an MRI, things moved pretty quickly surgically after that... but that was about 15 years ago.
Good luck!
And to all who are suffering, I feel your pain. Literally. Chronic sciatica is awful. |

That's bad. Persistent sciatica that doesn't resolve on its own after 6-8 weeks should be properly investigated and triaged.
Depending on symptoms, you should've had at least physio by now and or been considered for a spinal epidural / nerve root block. After all this time, if conservative management had failed a surgical opinion should've been requested.
Pisses me off when I see situations like these improperly managed |

I'm able to get about now and again it drops me to the floor, friends now think I'm very religious
I had a telephone appointment, the Dr sent me a you tube video of a stretch to do

What really helped me years back was a deep tissue massage by a sports therapist.
I've not been looking after myself so I've slipped back a bit, but I'm no longer laid up on the sofa for weeks a couple of times a year.. |

The stretches do help me at times. I do some every night in bed. |

I would ask for a referral to the pain clinic. |

I fell off a ladder about 20 years ago at work.
Been suffering ever since.
Had loads of physio but never been scanned even though I have asked.
I usually suffer an episode or two a year but it's always been manageable.
This year however starting in February I have not been pain free despite being in touch with GP on several occasions and being signed off they still refused to acknowledge the problem as worse due to the length of time.
Fortunately I have been able to get enough money together for a private MRI which has confirmed that it's not a muscular issue which I bloody knew.
I do daily mobility exercises and try to get steps in as I have said.
But honestly it's been an uphill battle and I don't know how much longer I can work with it like this.
I'm a carpenter so my job is pretty physical.
It's depressing |

I suffered for years with sciatica, had injections into my spine (lumbar punctures) at the pain clinic every 3 months for many years, finally had surgery but that was a disaster, caused loss of feeling in left calf and foot and right foot. Sciatica is a bar-steward and surgery is very risky. |

I’ve had sciatica and it’s awful but touchwood at the moment I’ve not got it. However I’ve got a fatty lump pressing on a nerve in my lower shoulder and it’s bloody agony. Had one before and had it removed so need to go again but I just know it’ll be months and months before they do it.

How about people who've had it for nearly 7 years continuously and who now have permanent neurological deficits? |

"Floor exercise and try hanging with both hands , I do it in the gym , as long as possible x3 , it helps stretch the discs from each other , worh a go"
That actually made mine worse.
I may try it again though. |

Yep that's what you get from the doctor painkillers and a list of stretches to do.
