"It should 100% be banned because they are treated awful and ditched when injured or not good enough.
Amazing dogs, perfect for zoomies and then a lazy day on the couch.
Not exploited for money. "
Ridiculous. |

What happens when they’re too old to race?
Hint - speak to your local dog rehoming service. |

Was more the bit about being treated awful. Obv can only go by personal experience, my uncle had three racing dogs. None were mistreated, nor were they given to animal shelters when they stopped racing. My dad took one, family friend took another and my uncle kept the last one, when it stopped racing, so did he. |

They got rid of the races in arizona. And I think last year the last 2 places in the states closed. It was fun betting on them. But as with everything a few people fuck it up for everyone. I am sure in 20 years there won't be horseracing as well |

"A charity wants to ban greyhound racing in the UK.
Should it be banned? What's going on here guys ? It's all over the news "
Not a few charities, many. Even in the US in 41 States now it's been banned. Whenever an animal is a commodity its and open to abuse of course there's someone's examples of uncle/ friend ect who always treated them exceptionally even after retirement but that isn't necessarily the norm see a shelter, ask a vet.
Should be banned for many reasons not limited to the fact the GBGB is entirely self regulated and not accountable to any scrutiny. Even on their site they talk about cruelty and doping of dogs but how often punishments are implemented are questionable. |

Its really not, it's not like horses who are looked after and maintained
Greyhounds are treated horrendously as soon as they are not raceworthy. |

Back in the day I use to enjoy a night out at Walthamstow dog track and as a young boy my dad & grandad took in to Haringey dog track.I wouldn’t want to see it banned the same as I don’t want to see horse racing banned |

Maybe this is what needs to be addressed then, the after care rather than the racing. Make owners provide an aftercare for the dog. Would put many off buying a racing dog |

I've never seen the care they provide when they're useful to be fair. Only the aftermath and the complete drop off

I'm assuming you've seen a lot more than me then. I've only known a few people to own race dogs and they were well looked after during their racing life |

Yeh I worked for a animal charity for a while so I admit I'm slightly skewed , but it was very much a known problem and seemingly countrywide |

Even when they are they can be doped, amphetamines ect. Or if injured given drugs/painkillers so they can race when injured.
Vets don't have facilities at racing centres. Just painkillers and euthanasia injections. If a dog is injured late in the day they don't necessarily get treatment there and then. Out of hrs vets are expensive so could well be they are seen the next day before they are treated. |
