Motivation for weight loss

Jump to: Newest in thread

When you don't really want to...you like how you are... but doctors won't give you an op till you drop a considerable amount of weight.

Wouldn't mind but the reason for needing to loose the weight is the risk under anesthetic.... yet they have offered me to have a gastric band... which requires anesthetic

I have no health issues relating to my weight. Even my surgeon double checked my results were mine when doing my pre op... before refusing Me just on bmi..

So motivation needed.... I am losing it but the brat in me wants to just say sod it...

So far I've set myself things like... i want to get back into my bike leathers.. and I want to go horse riding again. Horse riding has a 15 stone limit at all the stables near me.

So other ideas for motivation

Your weight is getting in the way of needed medical care and you can’t find the motivation?

You might just have to stay this way

What kind of motivation was you expecting fab to give you that a doctor saying “your too big to operate on” wouldn’t

Have interim goals that are stepping stones to where you need to be.

I need a medical procedure that I'd need even if I was a size 8. The fact is they are prepared to give me the more risky gastric surgery.. yet not something i need...

They refused me when I was slimmer as what if I wanted more kids or met a new partner

Manchester-ish

So do we need to provoke the other side of the brat for you? So that you go all "Fuck you, I'll show you!"

Leathers and horse riding sound like fantastic reasons.

I go rock climbing I use the wait and center of mass to my advantage it feels great when I finally do a route that's been bothering me. Use it as an excuse to train and build muscle

that won't help with motivating me to shift weight I don't want to shift in the first place

They told me to increase my activity... I'm already active... I swim daily and do aqua aerobics. Have to be careful what I do due to issues nothing to do with being a bigger girl. Hypermobility being one issue.

I get weighed once a week and I'm doing measurements every 4 weeks x

Could you speak to the doctor about getting that new drug? Sema-something?

Not sure who they offer it to but it’s meant to be great

Semaglutide .. good luck with that there's a manufacturing problem that's been going on for months which makes getting hold of it nigh on impossible, not only that but because of the way it works ( essentially suppressing the appetite) as soon as you stop using it then weight will go back on

nope. I wouldn't ever take medication to loose weight. Last time I did that, it gave me issues that have never gone away. X plus you would just put it back on again if you stopped

I can loose the weight, done it several times... it's finding the motivation when they could do it anyway.. I've been told if I could pay for it then I could have the op. X( sadly that's not an option)

Well sadly, here’s the hard truth

Motivation is crap because no one’s motivated day to day. When things get hard, motivation leaves

Discipline will get you everything you need and more. Discipline never dwindles or shrinks.

What motivated you to lose weight before? Could you lean on that?

Sponsored slim?

Just diet today? And then again tomorrow... because one day is easier than long stretches of time. X

It’s easier said than done but joining a class or joining a local group that takes part in brisk walks/jogs might help?

I see more people exercising in pairs nowadays, I assume that’s one way to remain motivated.

Spite motivated me the last time

I was seeing a guy who loved big girls. He cheated on me with a bigger girl when I lost 2 stone. He told me to put the weight back on.. I lost loads...

The time before I just decided I was going to be

The biggest issue is I have a issue that I link bad times in my life to being slim.

Well without getting into it too deeply, are you sure you like the way you are now? Or just don’t like the idea of being slimmer? Bit of both? Worth thinking about

As far as diet goes, there’s certain diet types that are designed to make losing weight easier. Something like intermittent fasting might work for you

You could cut down on the portion and drink plenty of water and carry the horse if possible or try some intense cardio exercise

I follow slimming world but don't do the unlimited free foods. Ie I watch portion sizes on pasta, rice, chicken etc. I find fasting makes me feel awful. I drink lots of water.

My first husband was a fitness instructor and a nutritionist, so I kinda know how to...the how to isn't the issue... its the why should I.

I did discuss the first question on a therapy session and we came to the conclusion that while I had no direct health issues due to my weight, I actually enjoyed it.

I'm very active in my daily life, as in even my holidays I'm normally hiking up a volcano.

I have had someone point out that once I've had my op, if I'm not happy, I can always put weight back on... which is true.

So far I have.... bike leathers as a goal ( I'm not replacing them unless I crash)

I've also like the idea someone said of doing it sponsored..as then it's for someone else not me.

That's great, which just leaves the diet cut off or reduce greasy food, dairy products salt and sugar keep a guide on your intake fruit can also put weight on so control by using say a cup as a measurement some fruit helps release toxins from the body which are great like black berries as an example do little research then make a list

Google what would happen if you don't have the op.. That would probably motivate me.

You sound pretty adventurous..stick to things that play to your desires rather than your resistance. Horse riding agsin is a good motivation. Choose something else too which has a weight restriction.. That you've always wanted to do or that you've not done for a while. Gliding? Indoor skydiving? Theme park? Ski lessons?

Good luck!

This may not help with motivation, but it may help with the journey - there's a therapy called 'virtual gastric band'. It's a combination of CBT and hyp-no-therapy and it really works! I had 4 sessions about 5 years ago and lost 3 stone without it being an issue. The therapist gave me audios to play as I went to sleep or if I felt like stuffing my face and I found it really helpful.

Weight snuck up a bit after I had covid so I'm going back for a top-up course next week, focusing on my over fondness / addiction to sweet things.

The hyp-no-therapy is gentle and calming - more like suggestions and strategies rather than anything pushy. The therapist can also suggest small, achievable goals which act like stepping stones.

(Not allowed to say hyp in the forums!)

I’ve currently got a goal to fit back into my riding leathers, but also because when I did lose the weight I felt a lot better.

Thankfully nowhere near where I was back a year ago, but still a long way to go. Cut down on what I eat, started walking more etc.

Like most of life, it's your choice, lose it and have better opportunities and the op that you want... Don't lose it and complain but know in your head you didn't bow down to "the man"... "nobody tells me what to do".

Easy to say but a lot harder to do and if you do find the magic motivation to start shifting the weight... Share it on here as god knows I need to do the same thing.

I am losing weight. I have lost over 2 stone already.... just have 9 to go. It was 8 but they decided that didn't put me low enough.

To those asking. I need a hysterectomy... I've been trying to have one for over 22 years

..think my lack of motivation is I've lost the weight before, they then refused me it for several other reasons.

So potentially I'm losing weight that I'm quite happy being the size I am...and for me being slimmer has issues and mentally it unsettles me. For them to find yet another reason not to do it.

The other thing is..there reason for not doing so is a cop out.... as they have offered me an operation I don't want and the risks are actually higher

I don't need advice on how to lose weight, what to eat etc as to be fair... I know and can when I set my mind to it do it.

I need this operation and thing is every month I don't have it.. I get anything from 10 days to actually 4 whole weeks where it makes physically leaving my house difficult...and they could do it without anesthetic if they wanted.

I was okay ish till they added an extra stone to what they wanted me to lose. This is the 2nd time they have changed the goal. That's why I'm lacking motivation as I feel I will get there and still be refused for some stupid reason.

So i need to find a reason other than because they said so.... have had some good ideas.

I was okay ish till they added an extra stone to what they wanted me to lose. This is the 2nd time they have changed the goal. That's why I'm lacking motivation as I feel I will get there and still be refused for some stupid reason.

So i need to find a reason other than because they said so.... have had some good ideas.

A few issues all mixed in there. Firstly.. Well done on losing your first 2 stones. Amazing achievement. As for how crap the comms has been with the health care provided... Probably best you have an adult conversation with them and be crystal clear about how it has unsettled and demotivated you. If they do it to you they can be doing it to others... And plus you may just get the clarification you need to give you your motivation. Good luck with it though
