"I wonder how much Kia paid for that show? Half of it was dedicated to the Cee'd."
If they at least they paid the appearance fee's of LeBlanc, Clapton & Willis then as a tv licence payer I for one am not begrudging them |

"I don't watch it, but considering it's one of the Beeb's top selling overseas sales I very much doubt it is for the chop anytime soon...."
It might well continue to raise dosh for BBC Worldwide and Mr Clarkson's pension plan.
Is it really prime Sunday evening 'entertainment'? |

I think the current series is much more polished than previous ones. The break did them good... |

I think the fact they've had to resort to cameo appearances by so-called celebrities suggests they've run out of steam. |

"................
Bearing in mind the choice of channels now, then I don't see why it shouldn't continue."
That's the logic which has left us with Corry, EastEnders and River Shitty.
Television of the lowest common denominator. |

They have always had celebrities on the programme or are you talking about little known ones and therefore scraping the barrel?
As to the rest of your comment, whilst I didn't watch tonight's episode, I hope it does continue even it is filling the coffers of the BBC and Clarkson's pension as I think its great; yes there are some episodes that are mediocre but there are some brilliantly funny ones and I for one, will continue to watch it as its better than most of the crap on tv. And Sunday night is perfect as that is when its always been on |

"Is it only me thinks their childish excesses are obscene! "
Three old men running around the countryside making fools of themselves.... its become Last of the Summer Wine on wheels
I still watch, but find my finger hovering on the forward button for some of the bits. |

The way I see it is this, the entirety of Saturday night entertainment on BBC1 and ITV is exploitative talent or celebrity wank and light entertainment that, in the case of ITV makes have sums of money for a limited number of people.
Top Gear is one hour a week on a Sunday, now only for 6 weeks (and possibly an xmas special) a year as I think they're only doing one run due to budget cuts. It's hugely popular and pitched mainly at men, which in itself is unusual for a tv show (outside of gadget shows and porn). It makes a lot of money for the BBC trust by sales overseas as well as JC, as I believe he owns the rights to the brand name Top Gear.
The big celebs who've been on, Tom Cruise etc have all had films to sell so they probably get no appearance fee as it is all part of their contracted press work for the film. I imagine even the less big name ones do it for little or nothing as it looks like a fun day out.
It's a great car porn programme and it doesn't really do any harm, as long as you remember that it's presented by 3 middle England morons and to ignore anything they say. And at least no-one gets exploited to make money for someone else. |

I can see how the three presenters could grate if you didn't like them but I think they work well together. Very funny and they just take the mickey like blokes in a pub. What's not to like about men being boys? lol.
Granted if you turn on expecting serious consumer advice you're going to be sorely disappointed but if you just tune in for the fun aspect then it's one of British tv's masterpieces. Long may it continue, it's the one programme I look forward to. |
