"We've seen lots of comedians live.
Most recently Russell Howard and he was fantastic. "
I loved Russell Howard when I was younger but gone off him a bit. I feel like his stuff is a little too formulaic these days. |

"No one really likes Michael McIntyre do they
His tours sell out very quickly so plenty do "
I genuinely don't understand the appeal he just laughs at himself and his own jokes.
He's not bad as a host of a show but nothing against him as a person I just don't find him funny. |

There's nothing wrong with that but, having been to see him, the people that go also laugh. His comedy works for some but not all |

"Which do you find funny and which are not funny.
Funny...Paul Chowdhry, Dave Chapelle, Kevin Hart, Ricky Gervais.
Not Funny....Jimmy Carr, Michael Mcintyre, Lee Evans"
I find very few funny on TV. Went to Nottingham Comedy venue and found better quality there. None insulting minority groups. |

Can't believe nobody's said Russell brand yet.
Thing with most of the main stream comedians is over exposure and the game show rota... See them live is different.
Bill Bailey, Dylan moran, al Murray, Mark steele, Stewart lee, loads I either really enjoy or respect their work.
Rosie Jones, and Sara millican just no not for me at all. Saw josh widdicome live and he was awful which was a shame. |

Russel Brand needs an entirely separate category for conspiratorial-*****-twat. |

My GF is a comedian so Ive seen god knows how many over the years.
All time fave is Eddie Izzard but there's loads of ones that I like. Got d*unk and danced with Dylon Moran in a club at Easter.
All the comedians being mentioned in this thread are either old guard or the usual faces on TV. There are so many good comedians on the circuit. |

In what sense? Are we talking stand up? Comedy actor? Generally funny?
Some can tell a great story and be funny but lack the punchline delivery! Some work well with other comedians alongside them.
Some have great crowd work but terrible at material. Some are very witty on the spot.
George Carlin will forever be great. |

Michael McIntyre is getting a hard time on this thread!
I watched him on Graham Norton’s chat show once and he told a story about a family holiday and it had me in tears of laughter - his stand up routine leaves me cold but he’s a great storyteller and I like that in a person. Not a fan of “joke” based humour myself.

He laughs far too much at his own stuff which is extremely irritating. It's an attempt at a suggestive tool really, a bit of psychology and a way to mask the weak comedy. He is his own canned laughter. |

land of make believe |
I have just bought tickets to see Bridget Christie ,Stewart Lee & Rhod Gilbert(not together!)
I saw Jack Whitehall on Wednesday ,and although it was a little treat for my son he was better than I had expected.
Bob Mortimer,James Acaster,Reginald D Hunter,Dave Gorman & Rob Delaney
I used to live in the same village as Roy 'Chubby'Brown and he is (in my opinion)just as unfunny (and generally repulsive )in real life.

"Bill burrr for me and ricky gervais. Both pretty clever with how they present things."
Indeed. People focus too much on the punching down and shock value of these two to dislike them which is fair enough. But the way they go about their comedy is far superior to the majority of mainstream comedians. |

We went to see Micky Flanagan earlier in the year at the Utilita Arena in Brum, he wasn't great to be honest. Wasn't on for long, waffled a lot, mixed a joke up and had to start it again.. nothing like you see on his live shows.
We also went to the same venue to see Ricky Gervais at the start of September and he was brilliant. Just like you see on his shows on TV.
Both of us loved Lee Evans back in the day but he got very samey. Sean Lock was a favourite also and is missed massively.

We've been lucky enough to see loads of comedians over the years. The only one I was genuinely disappointed with was Frankie Boyle. Truly awful show and very short.
I seem to be a bit opposite to a lot on this thread in that I do like Michael McIntyre and am seeing him in a couple of weeks. I don't like Ricky Gervais with the exception of After Life.
Bill Bailey is one of my favourites and used to love watching the Billy Connolly dvds my dad used to have. Managed to see him live once. |
