I think there's power in saying no. In removing yourself from something. In making a choice and owning it, regardless of the consequences. Of being direct and being able to say no, that doesn't work for me.
I do think we focus on nos a bit too much. Dither. Aren't honest.
Focusing on saying yes to the right things and being respectful but standing by our nos is important. |

"No means no.
But no doesn't always mean no.
He "Do you want a pudding?"
She "No"
He "Okay, I'll just order one"
She "Ooohhh, that looks nice..."
"
So true. When I put my foot down and say "No. I am the man of the house and when I say no I mean yes dear". |

No....the one word you can utter to someone that then induces a woe is me behaviour in them and them throwing their toys out of their pram of epic proportions because they couldn't get their own way.
Often they want their own way far too quickly and will belittle you or your efforts or what you were already giving and make sure you come off as the bad person while completely ignoring the fact that you stated it would be a no before they even attempted to get their own way. They cross boundaries out of sheer disrespect and selfishness yet will claim it's you that did that and will act the victim.
Which then leaves you with a big fat NO to reacting or responding to their childish tantrum. And that's often easier said than done.
I often wonder which part of NO they don't understand, the N or the O. Even when it's clearly said or written. |

"No means no.
Except when it doesn't
to the listener it must mean NO . if the person saying no wants to qualify it with not today not yet not until you wash it thats deferent "
There is no must about it, it depends on your dynamic.
No is definitely not a safeword*
* unless agreed beforehand |

No, they're too selfish and think they'll get what they want and just ignore it because it doesn't suit their narrative. |
