Any advice anyone please.
I have come back from holiday our property has been broken into ransacked , smashed up and flooded all the bungalow. Everything has had to be chucked . Council won’t help as I work , insurance for the landlord doesn’t cover my stuff.
Basically I have been left to hang.
All advice welcome |

I think citizens advice is your best bet.
If you haven't chosen to have contents insurance then really your only hope of getting any of the value of your stuff back is if the perpetrators are caught and have the assets to repay if sued for it.
But CAB should be able to help you get enough sorted to scrape by. |

There’s a great agency that can help you with what you’re legally able to do but without contents insurance I’m afraid you’re likely not able to get much assistance.
http://www.legalmentor.co.uk/
You can speak to them for free and it’s £150 if there is something they can take action on in your behalf.

Short term, nothing you can do without appropriate insurance in place as others have said (sorry, it’s an awful situation). Longer-term (much longer) you MAY have a claim against your landlord but you’ll need to speak to a specialist solicitor about that.

The only real way to reimburse such a loss would be contents insurance, which is usually down to the home owner or tenant to pay for and provide themselves. So in the absence of that your likely to be stuffed unfortunately.
The only real consideration is your landlord, if you have any documents or evidence that they had told you prior to this incident, that you was covered then you have that. You should speak to them first, if they dispute this then you could consider taking them to a small claims court.
Although as a renter myself, I'd be worried what impact that would have on my tenancy. They could easily screw you over later down the line, one way or another.
I wish you all the best pal. |
