I'm 9 months cigarette free
4 months tomorrow!!!! nicotine free.
I've put myself as a nonsmoker as I don't want to go back and I'm confident that won't happen. I'm not struggling with it.
Life insure companies count you as a non smoker if you've had no nicotine products for 12 months.
But they can fuck off....I'm not smoking or using nicotine.
How long have gone OP? I think a well done you may be in order. |

Nearly 3 hours now
Why you laughing at me! It's a record!
Ha ha, day 1 but was wondering when is good to change it"
Download the smoke free app and put the time in so you can watch the counter....it's encouraging.
Aim for 48 hours.
3 hours is a start....keep going. You got this. |

"How long do you leave it until you declare yourself a non smoker on here?"
You can declare it any time you like, personally I think that declaring that "you have given up" is a big step in making it a permanent thing.

I think I put myself as a non smoker after about a month but can't remember, I vape still but don't have that horrid nasty smell anymore (sorry smokers!).
I have put on my profile now I won't meet smokers, limits my range though

"My first target is a day, if I can do a day I can do two.
Second target is a week, if I can do a week I can do two
If I hit a month I'm a non smoker "
You've got this, I tried many many times and I knew that when I wanted too, I would and when that time came, I did. Only you can want too.

I'd give it at least a couple of weeks op |

So just a quick update. I managed 2 days having just 1 cigarette at bedtime. So they didn't count. Back to work and back to normal until home time, then just one at bedtime. So they definitely didn't count. So I'll call those days practice.
But now I'm on day three of zero cigarettes. Fuuuck it's difficult!
One of my motivations is purely just that I should be a stronger person than a stupid addiction. When you see people with real problems, addicted to shit like heroin, it HAS to make you think how on earth they can conquer it. If they can then I can

"Oh that's brilliant OP! Well done you.
I wouldn't change mine for probably a few months. I will be changing it in the new year. I think you know when you're no longer a smoker."
Kinda agree with you Meli, but one of my motivations is for opening up more potential meets for when I do start getting involved again. I dont know what the percentages are but let's say its 50/50, will/won't meet smokers, I dont want to be ruled out by half the meets on here before they've seen my mugshot!
Symbolic changing out for the better, but likewise symbolic if I have to do the walk of shame in putting it back |

Just to say why we wont meet smokers and it's to do with nicotine so we don't meet vapers either. First apologies for being a bit graphic but we often get people come back to us and say oh we're not smokers as we now vape.
Nicotine gives every thing a bitter after taste. I've tried to be as nice about it as I can but there is your answer. Even if you haven't smoked for a few days that nasty stuff stays in your blood stream for quite some time.
Again you might be wondering why so many people wont meet smokers or vapers so there perhaps is your answer |

Don't beat yourself up about what other people are doing. If you find it hard, you find it hard.
Congrats so far!
I think at least 3 months to change to the no smoker tick box. Good luck.
Maybe just give up for today. It's easier to just do one day, right. |

I agree with the above. It's another one of my motivations. I spend a fortune on nice aftershaves, make the 'effort' to be showered and smelling nice - but then smoke a dozen fags on my way to a meet! Kinda makes it pointless.
Vaping would be something similar in my opinion. Why would I spend £100 on a new aftershave, the turn up smelling of strawberries, or cookie dough?
Ha ha. Find the motivations and stick to 'em |

I still count it as one of the best things I've ever done, not spending a fortune to damage my health and shorten my life
I found the first week hell but after that it got easier, I remember one day, maybe six weeks after stopping, thinking that I'd never even thought about a cigarette for a week

I do get that, really I do but I think waiting a few weeks and then changing it could be a better move. Set a definite date for doing it and then you know what's going to happen, to keep going so you can change it proudly.
I'm not changing mine until it's been a few months. I don't care if it rules me out, I'm good.
Keep going OP, and do post back with updates, it's lovely to read, x |
