Will we get an 'almost' HS2, like HS1.9999999% that will have spent grossly more than the 'lower" budget for it but not go anywhere near to what it was going to be giving us? They've failed to confirm that there's going to be Manchester coverage this week. The Euston terminal is on hold, so it may end up being a Midlands hotchpotch to west London . It may have saved some journey times, if it'd been fully central to centres...

Increasing your public transport use? Unsurprised if the UK doesn't get its originally planned network? Not a political thread, just a thought arena

"What other part measures in all walks of life do we expect?"

Everything from the government.

I'm just happy their mates can heat their mansions this winter. Big houses are cold.

Whaley Bridge,Nr Buxton,

The business case for it was flawed before working from home.White elephant vanity project. If it was ever a serious project it would have been built North to South, not South to North.Build London Birmingham then pull the plug was always the plan.

I think it's quite clear it's been a huge fail. The costs and environmental damage has vastly outstripped the benifits.

However we forget that when something costs the tax payer eye watering amounts of money than money comes out of the public purse and into someone else's pockets. So there are some winners in this game. Its just not me or you or any of the tax payers. So let's not be selfish and just think ourselves. Let us send our warmest wishes to the very few (and no doubt very connected in Westminster) who've made millions at the tax payers expense.
