I would say that "Fritz The Cat" is the best film that couldn't be made today.
It nearly didn't get released in 1972 because no distributors would take it on.
The cost to make it was $700,000 and it ended up grossing over $90m worldwide, making it one of the most successful independent films of all time.
Because of the risk averse nature of film companies now days and Disney in particular, films like Fritz the cat will never even get off of the story board let alone make into cinema's. |
